Ballot initiatives allow voters to make laws directly, without going through our state legislature. If you collect enough signatures, you can put an initiative on the ballot. If voters approve it, it becomes law. This process is a right - one guaranteed in our constitution. 2/5
But Arizona Republicans HATE that voters have this kind of power, and every year, they try to find ways to make ballot initiatives harder....or even impossible. 3/5
Yesterday, Republicans in the AZ House approved HCR2015, which requires ballot measures to get 60% of the vote to become law. (Funny how they don't want to apply the same standard to themselves as legislators...) Under HCR2015, ballot measures will become nearly impossible. 4/5
