ICYMI:
This morning, the @AZHouseGOP passed a slew of transphobic, bigoted, and anti-abortion bills in the House Judiciary Committee.
This is what happened, what the bills are, and what you can do next to stop these attacks on our civil rights. #AZLEG
⬇️🧵
#SB1164:
The 15-week abortion ban which is a copy of the the same bill at the center of Dobbs v. Jackson — the Supreme Court Case awaiting a decision this summer that will decide the fate of Roe v. Wade.
This bill passed out of committee on partisan lines of 6-4. #AZLEG

Arizonans: if you voted YES on raising the minimum wage, legalizing marijuana, or investing in education, there's something you need to know.
We were only able to pass those changes thanks to something called the ballot initiative process. And right now, it's under attack. 1/5
Ballot initiatives allow voters to make laws directly, without going through our state legislature. If you collect enough signatures, you can put an initiative on the ballot. If voters approve it, it becomes law. This process is a right - one guaranteed in our constitution. 2/5

The AZ GOP has snuck all kinds of anti-voter provisions into the budget deal that passed the Arizona State Senate very late Tuesday night and could pass the House as soon as today.
Some of the most concerning (and bizarre) provisions include...
1. Taking away the power to settle election-related lawsuits from the Sec. of State (a Democrat), and giving it to the Attorney General (a Republican). Total power grab! Applies only til Jan 2023 - just in case a Democrat becomes AG in 2022

It's currently 9 PM and Republicans in the Arizona Senate are rushing through one of the most reckless budget plans in the history of Arizona. This plan does nothing but undermine Prop 208 — at the cost of resources for everyday Arizonans. Watch ⬇️ #AZLEG
HAPPENING NOW: Large crowd gathered at Sen. Sinema’s office in Phoenix ahead of the For the People Act vote today. #EndTheFilibuster#Arizona
@SenatorSinema
Crowds on either side chanting “It’s time to end the filibuster!”

.@Dougducey has officially signed #SB1457 into law. All the efforts & over 2,000 signatures collected had a great impact on how this legislation is pushed out & the fight is definitely not over.
We fought against this horrible bill for these reasons:
#AZLEG (1/6)
This bill criminalizes doctors who perform an abortion based on genetic abnormalities with a Class 3 FELONY.
This puts doctors who perform abortion-care in Arizona in an incredibly difficult position, as they could receive a felony for providing basic healthcare. (2/6) #AZLEG

We are here with the Reproductive Rights Coalition to deliver over 2,000 petition signatures asking Gov. Ducey to veto #SB1457#AZLeg#handsoffaz
“This is a bill contrary to 76% of Arizona voters, who believe that personal medical decisions are between a patient and a doctor. This is our legislatures’ attempt to pander to extremists” -@CiviaTamarkin

If you live in Maricopa County, your 2020 ballot is currently sitting at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, in the hands of a company called Cyber Ninjas, run by someone active in the "Stop the Steal" conspiracy.
A quick recap of where things stand:
The ballots are being counted by volunteers in a non-secure facility with minimal protocols in place.
Arizona has 7.2 million people. Later today, about 30 of them will gather for a rally at the State Capitol calling for stay at home orders to be lifted.
A quick thread about where these protests are really coming from. (1/11)
The real story with these stay at home protests is that they're just. so. small.
The vast majority of Americans support continued social distancing.
And aren't dumb enough to congregate in large groups right now.
MEGA-THREAD:
Over the last 24 hours, #coronavirus news has moved FAST.
Keeping people healthy and safe means canceling events & closing everything. That, in turn, means missed work, smaller paychecks, shrinking bank balances and a lot of stress & worry for working people.
Luckily, AZ already has paid sick leave, thanks to #Prop206 passed by @LUCHAAZ & many others. (Shout-out to the power of grassroots ballot measures!) Part-time, hourly and seasonal workers all get paid sick time!
