ZERO COVID CHINA GRAPPLING WITH BA.2: Recently, over in China, it appears they are having a new uptick in infections over the last 7 days. Genomic surveillance data is showing that BA.2 is beginning to become a dominant strain over in China. 
China has limited information (at least that I can find, please share resources if you have them) regarding genomes, however, I was able to find the chart above. Now, when I say uptick, it is a rather small uptick, but when talking China, is pretty significant.
China is hands down the most strict country in the world for COVID-19 restrictions. Especially now with the rest of the world dropping their restrictions. They had a minor uptick during the Olympics, will be interesting to monitor this.
China recorded their first death since the beginning of the entire pandemic recently as well. What does this all mean? It's hard to say, these are extremely small figures in comparison to the population of China as a whole. But having their first COVID death for 2 years is wild.
reuters.com/world/china/ch… Beijing is noticing this uptick as well. I expect china to respond extremely aggressively as always. Based on the numbers, Omicron has given them more problems then Delta. However, we will still monitor this situation for you.
Seeing China still respond as heavy and swiftly as all other variants, is a big signal to the world the pandemic isn't over. Why would China continue these extreme measures if COVID-19 truly did not pose a threat to public health and national security? Expensive protocol.
