The West must understand that, to Russia, Ukraine can never be just a foreign country. Russian history began in what was called Kievan-Rus. The Russian religion spread from there. Ukraine has been part of Russia for centuries, and their histories were intertwined before then.
Some of the most important battles for Russian freedom, starting with the Battle of Poltava in 1709 , were fought on Ukrainian soil. The Black Sea Fleet — Russia’s means of projecting power in the Mediterranean — is based by long-term lease in Sevastopol, in Crimea.
Even such famed dissidents as Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and Joseph Brodsky insisted that Ukraine was an integral part of Russian history and, indeed, of Russia.
The European Union must recognize that its bureaucratic dilatoriness and subordination of the strategic element to...
domestic politics in negotiating Ukraine’s relationship to Europe contributed to turning a negotiation into a crisis. Foreign policy is the art of establishing priorities.
The Ukrainians are the decisive element. They live in a country with a complex history and a polyglot composition. The Western part was incorporated into the Soviet Union in 1939 , when Stalin and Hitler divided up the spoils. Crimea, 60 percent of whose population is Russian,...
became part of Ukraine only in 1954 , when Nikita Khrushchev, a Ukrainian by birth, awarded it as part of the 300th-year celebration of a Russian agreement with the Cossacks. The west is largely Catholic; the east largely Russian Orthodox.
The west speaks Ukrainian; the east speaks mostly Russian. Any attempt by one wing of Ukraine to dominate the other — as has been the pattern — would lead eventually to civil war or break up.
To treat Ukraine as part of an East-West confrontation would scuttle for decades any prospect to bring Russia and the West — especially Russia and Europe — into a cooperative international system.
Ukraine has been independent for only 23 years; it had previously been under some kind of foreign rule since the 14th century. Not surprisingly, its leaders have not learned the art of compromise, even less of historical perspective.
The politics of post-independence Ukraine clearly demonstrates that the root of the problem lies in efforts by Ukrainian politicians to impose their will on recalcitrant parts of the country, first by one faction, then by the other.
That is the essence of the conflict between Viktor Yanukovych and his principal political rival, Yulia Tymoshenko. They represent the two wings of Ukraine and have not been willing to share power.
A wise U.S. policy toward Ukraine would seek a way for the 2 parts of the country to cooperate with each other. We should seek reconciliation, not the domination of a faction.
Russia and the West, and least of all the various factions in Ukraine, have not acted on this principle.
Each has made the situation worse. Russia would not be able to impose a military solution without isolating itself at a time when many of its borders are already precarious. For the West, the demonization of Vladimir Putin is not a policy; it is an alibi for the absence of one.
Putin should come to realize that, whatever his grievances, a policy of military impositions would produce another Cold War. For its part, the United States needs to avoid treating Russia as an aberrant to be patiently taught rules of conduct established by Washington.
Putin is a serious strategist — on the premises of Russian history. Understanding U.S. values and psychology are not his strong suits. Nor has understanding Russian history and psychology been a strong point of U.S. policymakers.

OTTO VON BISMARCK
Otto, Prince of Bismarck, Count of Bismarck-Schönhausen,Duke of Lauenburg, born Otto Eduard Leopold von Bismarck, was a conservative German statesman and diplomat. From his base in the upper-class of Junker landowners, Bismarck rose rapidly in Prussian politics. Image
He pursued his aims in a variety of ways. In an effort to weaken French influence in Europe, Otto von Bismarck once forged a letter to the French Emperor Napoleon III, retaining its meaning but changing the style to a more insolent and even offensive one.
As he expected, Napoleon III declared war on Prussia, which he just as expectedly lost, and France's influence waned.
His headache was his own son. When he was employed in the civil service, he caused nothing but trouble by loafing and drinking.

President Putin's speech to the Russian people last night on the advent of the military invasion of the Republic of Ukraine.

Thread.
Dear citizens of Russia! Dear friends!
Today, I again consider it necessary to return to the tragic events taking place in the Donbass and the key issues of ensuring the security of Russia itself.
Let me start with what I said in my address of February 21 this year.
We are talking about what causes us particular concern and anxiety, about those fundamental threats that year after year, step by step, are rudely and unceremoniously created by irresponsible politicians in the West in relation to our country.

There was a man in London 300 yrs ago called Jonathan Wild. He lived at a time robbery and violent crimes were rampant in the city - day/night. The people were helpless and the police were largely absent. And because nature abhors a vacuum, this man, a civilian, filled that void.
He started hiring himself to government to capture thieves and get them hanged. He was very effective in catching thieves and in retrieving stolen goods back to their owners. He set up what he called 'Lost Property Office' which became a house of relief for traumatized victims...
of theft and robbery. Jonathan Wild did everything for a fee, became wealthy and was London's toughest guy of his time.

NYSE wants to be marketplace for NFTs just like with stocks

The New York Stock Exchange is stepping into the nonfungible tokens market with plans to do for digital assets what it does for stocks.
The NYSE said in a regulatory filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that it wants to be a financial exchange for cryptocurrencies and NFTs that would compete with the likes of OpenSea and Rarible Inc.
The filing, dated Feb. 10, indicated plans for a NYSE-branded cryptocurrency and a marketplace to buy, sell and trade NFTs.
In a statement, the NYSE said it has no immediate plans to launch cryptocurrency or NFT trading but “regularly considers new products and their impact...

Do you truly believe that God answers prayers? Not because you're told so by your parents or church pastors, or the society expects you to believe so. Have you had a personal experience where God answered your prayers and you have no doubt at all it was Him? Truthfully tell us.
Lemme give my own narrative. I have a cousin in NJ who was getting to that age in women when scares of inability to ever get married started arising. She is a very prayerful person and we've been praying together about a life partner for her. At the same time, I had a friend
a guy in Jand who was wife-hunting and they knew themselves. It seemed like a perfect match. My friend started campaigning for me to support his marital overtures to my cousin. I called my cuz but she told me she was still praying about it. My friend so wanted her, that he...

This video is so difficult to watch.
Viewer Discretion.

This was how we started life after a three year devastating war.
And today, they call us DOMINATING.

Thread.
I recall that when we returned to Awka after this sordid war, the entire town was looted and burned to the ground; I mean completely burnt out.
Over 10,000 homes.
I was wondering why the Nigerian troops had to destroy the town. Were they fighting with the houses?
My grandmother who refused to flee with us had a bullet put through her skull, after which this very old harmless woman was burned with her house.
And today they still hate us. Some say because we are enterprising.
