Putin was thought to be the ultimate beneficial owner of Gunvor it sure has a very opaque chain of ownership.
And our public records do not help. The beneficial owners can be hidden through off shore companies registered abroad.
According to the NGO Transparency International, more than 85,000 properties in the UK are owned anonymously by entities registered abroad.
