Tuned in late, assume I missed the Ukraine & COVID parts of the speech, but these meat & potato: buy American, raise wages, cut costs things seem like they would be popular.
Biden's proposal to raise taxes on rich & powerful households & corporation stands in sharp contrast to Republican plan to raise taxes on lower-income working families & retirees. Taxing rich people is popular & good, taxing poor people is unpopular & bad.
Chief prosecutor for pandemic fraud is great idea: it was likely rampant AND we need more investigation & prosecution of white collar crime.
Why is that we can test any American & give them treatment for free, for COVID-19, but not other diseases?
Biden: "The answer is not to *defund* the police, but to *fund* the police"
This will popular, but I would prefer to fund orgs that optimize keeping US safe by working w/ communities, w/o core mandate to arrest people. We ask police to do too many things they are not trained for
Biden has been terrible on immigration, doing nothing to stem crippling decline in *legal* immigration. And, continuing too many of Trump's inhumane (and completely unproductive) polices at our southern border.
Now Biden is in that part of the speech where he just touches on core issues to satiate constituencies, but he is moving so fast I am not going to bother to comment as he will be 2 to 3 issues later by the time you see my tweet.
It is cool having two women sitting behind Biden, but I look forward to when we have a woman at the podium.
Republican congresswoman mocked Biden as he talked about his son, a veteran, dying from cancer.
If you are reading this, you are not the target audience for this speech. I hate the laundry list stuff, but when Biden got into the topics he cares about, bread & butter stuff, wage, costs, prescription drug prices, he was clear & forceful.

No matter what Republicans or their friends @peterbakernyt@maggieNYT or any of his other complicit water-carriers say: Getting indicted for multiple felonies, likely in multi jurisdictions, for different sets of brazen public crimes against US, is bad for entire Trump Family
Republican Elite falling over themselves to show their devotion after his indictment may help Trump's Republican nomination (that he already had in the bag), unless the indictments become too cumbersome for him to continue
But Trump faces real possibility of accountability for the first time in his horrific 50+ years of brazenly defrauding everyone: he stole classified documents, he cooked his books to cheat in election (but also to cheat on his taxes), he orchestrated an insurrection against US
If someone wants to talk to US about protecting children, but they don't support gun safety regulations, they are not interested in protecting children
If someone publicly commits a bunch of crimes, but they are not charged because they threaten violence if they are held accountable, they have effectively ended rule-of-law
If this person is a credible threat to incite violence against US (they have incited violence against US before), it is even more imperative they are held accountable: otherwise our government is incentivizing people to incite violence against US to avoid accountability
If a political party's position is that our government should not hold their leaders accountable for breaking the law, and they will lead violence against US if the government tries (1) they are not the party of law-and-order (2) they are not loyal to rule-of-law or the republic
Both Republican front-runners want US to end aid to Ukraine and force them to surrender to Russia. Their theory is that Ukraine fully capitulating to Putin would bring "peace" & "save Ukrainians dying in war", but reality is their plan would assure endless war & untold death.
If Ukraine surrenders (1) Putin can declare victory, retrench support, rebuild military, and move onto next war of expansion with knowledge that US will allow it to succeed (2) Putin would cause massive suffering for occupied Ukrainians, while constraining free Ukraine's growth.
Only path to peace is for Ukraine, backed by its allies: prove to Putin the futility of his dream of regaining a Russian Empire. Force Putin to take generous offer that Ukraine & west have given this monster: bring his military back to Russian now and he keeps his wealth & power.
Silicon Valley, despite all of the amazing wealth & technology it has created for US, has a serious PR problem because their most of vocal leaders are so dismissive of what they owe society for the education, infrastructure, and regulations that made whatever they did possible.
(1) government should do everything reasonable to ensure trust in the banking system for depositors (2) while ensuring that people who took risks and lost, actually lose, to avoid creating a moral hazard that encourages inefficiently high risk …
(3) those people who profited off of the bank run, especially if they have public statements contradicting private actions, should be scrutinized (4) every business, media, political elite calling for government action after spending career scorning government action …
