SEFF remembers p/t UDR LCpl Thomas Loughlin, 44, married, 5 daughters, worked for Road Service, from Spamount nr Castlederg, murdered 37 yrs ago 2/3/84 by PIRA as he got into his van to go to work. His wife was on the way to the front door with their baby daughter to wave .... Image
..goodbye, when the van exploded; IRA had planted a booby-trap bomb underneath it. Thomas died a short time later of his injuries.

Thomas was one of many off duty UDR soldiers to be targeted & murdered in the area.

He'd previously served with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.

Thomas’s wife described him as “a great provider for his family .... his children always came first & he was also a very homely man, never wanting to be going places. He was happy just being at home.”

SEFF remembers Anne Owens, 22, RC comptometer operator & her friend Janet Bereen, 21, RC radiographer, murdered by PIRA bomb attack on the packed Abercorn Bar in central Belfast on 16:30, 4/3/72, regarded as one of the most horrific incidents of 'The Troubles.'

The coroner described the incident as "pathological murder of the most depraved kind".

Anne was from Chichester Avenue and had worked for the NI Electricity .. Image

SEFF remembers Damien Trainor, 25, RC mechanic, murdered with his Protestant friend, Philip Allen, 34, by LVF on 3/3/98. Both from Poyntzpass.

Damien's 24-hr motor recovery vehicle (with his name painted on the side & of which he was very proud) was parked outside the Railway .. Image

Just after 21:00, 2 gunmen entered the bar & ordered 6 customers to lie on the floor then opened fire with hand guns. 2 other customers were seriously injured.

The dying & injured were being comforted while waiting for help to arrive. The parents of both ...

SEFF remembers James Seymour, 55, Protestant married with 2 kids, died 27 yrs ago, 2/3/95, in the S Tyrone Hosp, 22 yrs after being shot in the head in May/73 in Coalisland when a PIRA gunman opened fire on a patrol returning to the RUC station where James was on guard duty. ... Image

SEFF remembers James Keenan & Martin McGuigan, both 16, RC & from Darkley, S Armagh, murdered (& 3 15-yr-olds injured) by a PIRA bomb that had been set off beside a stolen trailer on 24/2/79.

James died instantly & Martin McGuigan a few hrs later. The teenagers were walking to..
a Sat night dance when the bomb exploded, creating a 5-ft-deep crater.

Police said the PIRA fired around a dozen shots at the teenagers as they lay injured on the ground.

PIRA "apologized" to the families of the dead youths :- "tragically the youths & their position on the ..
