TOMORROW, grassroots groups and citizens from across the county launch #Vote4More, an historic, people-powered initiative to transform the county council forever
Be one of the FIRST to sign this historic petition to expand the Baltimore County Council at the #Vote4More press conference and launch event!
Thursday, March 3, 10 am
Randallstown Community Center, 3505 Resource Drive Randallstown, MD 21133
#Vote4More is a public petition effort–led by ordinary County residents, not incumbent Council members–to place a question on the 2022 General Election ballot in Baltimore County.
The #Vote4More ballot question will give citizens an opportunity to vote to amend the County Charter by enlarging the size of the County Council from 7 elected district members to 11, reducing district sizes from around 125,000 to 78,000.
By creating more districts, #Vote4More! will dramatically expand opportunities to diversify the Baltimore County Council, improving the accessibility and productivity of the council and opening doors for new, diverse, young and other candidates!

Their lightly redrawn District 2 includes a 40% Black minority.
👉🏽Last we checked, 40% is not a "majority."
⭐️"Majority: the greater part or number; the number larger than half the total (opposed to minority); a number of voters or votes, jurors, or others in agreement, constituting more than half of the total number."⭐️
BREAKING: @BaltCoGov has refused to interact with the @ACLU_MD on crafting a fair map & has revealed that they’ll be submitting to the judge a secret map that does NOT include two majority-Black districts.
👉🏽In defiance of the court order.
They're purposely submitting an unacceptable map, in an attempt to "evade judicial review on timeliness grounds," as @ACLU_MD says in today's filing
Why? It's simple: they don’t want to move a few precincts from District 4 into District 1, bc that would endanger incumbents' re-election chances.
🔥And they're willing to unlawfully dilute minority votes & waste taxpayer money to get their way🔥
The Democratically-controlled Baltimore County Council says it is considering its "options" as to whether to comply with the Voting Rights Act--or appeal the ruling against its district map.
**Let's be clear about what that means.**
🧵
To appeal, @BaltCoGov would have to argue for an interpretation of the Voting Rights Act that tears at its foundation, advancing the same arguments as the Alabama GOP
⭐️Legal experts tell us there's no other way to do it⭐️
Upshot:
👉🏽Supreme Court could use the @BaltCoGov arguments to dismantle the Voting Rights Act
👉🏽Given the court's intent to do so and the GOP push to make it happen, this is a real possibility
But as @ACLU_MD's Debbie Jeon says, the county’s legal arguments are "surprisingly weak."
The county's attorney admits his office “does not have...the requisite subject matter expertise to handle this complex legal matter.”
While the @ACLU_MD and @NAACPBaltCounty filed comprehensive expert analyses to support their claims, the County brought in ONLY ONE expert, Dr. James Gimpel from the University of Maryland, to support theirs.
The lawsuit against @BaltCoGov's racist district map, in which 6 of 7 districts are majority white despite the county being 48% people of color, has now been filed.
