You know why Ukrainians will win this war? Because they are united as never before. I will tell you about a huge effort of solidarity unfolding right now in the Ukrainian society, just one example. Let's start.
We are in the Western Ukraine 🧵
The sirens have been heard here too and people had to hide in bomb shelters. However, it is still safe, the area has not been affected by the fighting. The most important change here is a big number of internally displaced persons, who flocked here from Kyiv, Kharkiv, etc
On the first day of Russian invasion, a local youth center has been spontaneously transformed into a place where locals started to bring humanitarian assistance. Young people who earlier came here for lectures or film screenings, showed up willing to volunteer
The center is buzzing with volunteers who sort clothes, medicines and food that locals bring here. People donate these goods in such massive amounts that they had to open other three locations to store them. There's another location where all of this is being distributed to IDPs
When I visited, this old lady was begging volunteers to find some work for her too. She said she was 70 and worked in a pharmacy for 30 years, so she wanted to help sorting drugs and medical supplies. But the girls thanked her and said there were already too many volunteers
Coordinator of the centre told me they were reorienting from helping the IDPs towards helping the army and those civilians who are stranded in the areas affected by the fighting and lack basic supplies of food and drugs. Brave drivers bring these goods to them daily
Overall, the spirit is incredible. I felt something similar to what I felt at Maidan during the Revolution of Dignity in 2013-2014: an incredibly network of people, each with their own area of responsibility, doing small things and contributing to a huge collective effort
This is what makes Ukraine so unique and different from authoritarian Russia and Belarus. Here, people have agency, they're change-makers, everyone is a drop in the ocean. People are able to self-organize and take the initiative. It is astonishing. Ukraine will win thanks to them

Day seven of Russia's war on Ukraine. Kyiv and Kharkiv are standing, but many civilians killed by Russian missiles. Ukrainians destroyed a huge military convoy in Mykolayiv reg. Our army is great in land combat, but our children need protection from missiles falling from the sky
It's heartbreaking to watch the last moments of life of a six-year old girl, killed by Russian airstrike. It's impossible not to weep. It's a failure of humanity if we do nothing to stop this. Ukraine is grateful for the support of the world, but it is unfortunately not enough.
Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons in 1994 under the Budapest memorandum, in exchange of security guarantees from the US, UK and Russia. These countries assured us they would protect our borders. Instead, Russia invaded Ukraine, and the US and UK buried their heads in the sand

I spoke on the phone with Oleksiy, whose apartment in Kyiv has been destroyed by a Russian missile in the early morning today. It was on the 22nd floor. He, his wife and three children luckily are unhurt because they were hiding in a bomb shelter at that time 🧵
'We heard a siren at about 8 am and went to the bomb shelter. There, we heard a loud bang, everything around us was shaking. Some time later, we saw photos in a neighbors' chat that our building was hit. We realized our apartment has been destroyed', Oleksiy told me
An entrepreneur in peace time, Oleksiy, his wife and three kids aged 8, 12 and 20 were unable to leave Kyiv earlier due to heavy fighting. Now, they also don't have a place to live. Oleksiy said they will probably have to spend next days and nights in the bomb shelter

I was staying strong today, not letting my emotions prevail. But I just read a post from my friend and burst into tears. As she and her 5-year old child woke up at the sound of explosions in Kyiv today, her daughter asked 'Mom, so is this war? Have Russians come to kill us?'
Why do our children in Ukraine have to experience this? Why do have have to ask this kind of questions? And - most importantly - what should we respond?
'We will never forgive them, right? We will not make peace and be friends with them? Never ever?' was the next thing this little kid asked.
Ukrainian young generation will never forgive Russians for what they are doing today.
