UPDATE: Russian forces are in control of the Zaphorizhizia nuclear plant, and we call on Russia to allow the Ukrainian operators to continue to operate safely – including allowing shift changes at both Zaphorizhizia and Chornobyl. 1/
The Ukrainian operators were extremely responsible in how they responded to yesterday’s appalling attack by safely taking 2 of the reactors offline. They currently have 1 reactor operating at partial capacity to keep the power grid stable. 2/
It’s important to understand that the Zaphorizhizia nuclear plant is designed to withstand significant shelling or bombardment. We have seen no elevated radiation readings overnight. Safety systems are intact, and reactors continue to receive cooling. 3/
We call on Putin to cease these reckless actions immediately, including conflict around nuclear power plants. 4/
The @iaeaorg effort to develop a safety and security framework during conflict is welcome. We will continue to monitor the situation and we're united against Putin’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine. 🇺🇦 5/5

I’ve spent the last two days touring West Virginia with my friend, @Sen_JoeManchin, and I’ve been bowled over by the potential this state is teeming with. There’s no question, West Virginians understand the epic challenge ahead. But they can see the opportunity, too. 1/
