On May 16 Reuters published a Russian propaganda video of Putin scoring hockey goals. The game was fake so Putin could win
Today Reuters published a Russian propaganda video of tanks in snowy Kyiv despite reports that it’s not snowing
This is how US media helps push propaganda
Some critics like to use the phrase “the media is failing you” but in this case the media is not failing. It’s doing exactly as it’s intended: to help people in power promote the content they want you to see. If you think journalism is about accountability you’re a professor
“Putin scores goals in all-star ice hockey game - News” is a headline written by @Reuters journalists who told their families that day that they had a good day at work
These are not journalists and their credentials from US press associations should be revoked or suspended until they fire the people responsible for promoting Russian war propaganda
Reporters who quote, with no context, the people who tried to overturn the election as if they deserve the default of credibility every day are effectively endorsing the Big Lie and telling you that you should believe them
“January 6th never happened” is the position of every reporter who quotes Kevin McCarthy without mentioning his leading role in the largest misinformation campaign in modern U.S. history
It is painfully easy to apply a bare minimum of accountability to insurrectionists — just add a clause after their name so it says “McCarthy, who spread the Big Lie that the election was stolen” — but almost all reporters don’t do this because they want to protect Republicans
Shouldn’t journalists apologize for falsely reporting that McCarthy “condemned” Greene and Gosar? It’s been a week and nothing’s happened so his claim that there’s “no place” in the Republican Party for white nationalists is obviously a lie right? Hello? Do we follow up on stuff?
I hold powerful people accountable, that’s why every night I put my head in the microwave to melt the part of my brain that retains memories so the next morning I can ask Kevin McCarthy if he has any thoughts on the news of the day that I can relay to the public for him
Looks like a lot of reporters pushed this out for McCarthy even though it was a lie. Should we follow up to report it wasn’t true or just keep asking him What Makes Biden Bad Today
Today @chucktodd put two Republicans — Peggy Noonan and Bush/Trump ambassador Bill Taylor — on his “panel of journalists” while refusing to invite any Democrats
The other panelists were 3 journalists from the Washington Post, PBS, and NBC
On January 6th you were told “history will remember”
Jim Hagedorn voted to overturn the election on that day. His Washington Post obituary — a collection of significant events of a person’s life — doesn’t mention this and erases this fact from history
The entirety of this obituary is below. According to the @washingtonpost the only thing you need to know about what he did in Congress is that he “served on the Agriculture and Small Business Committees.”
This is the clearest validation and signal of success for the right wing’s 2-year pro-covid misinformation campaign. A solid majority of *everyone* - not just Republicans - believes covid should take over as the media uses covid’s preferred language: people are “ready to move on”
From the very beginning our media elevated this campaign. When Trump and Kayleigh McEnany said covid was a hoax, the flu, or that masks don’t work, the media aired their misinformation briefings live, every day. @jonkarl even congratulated McEnany and said “welcome to the podium”
On Oct. 15, 2020 @NBCNews rewarded Trump for his misinformation campaign with a prime-time town hall in which Trump spread new covid lies, including the lie that masks aren’t just ineffective but that they can *give you covid*. NBC didn’t correct him and continued to air it live
For those of you who thought the Republican Party declaring Jan. 6 "legitimate political discourse" would take hold in the media as a tangible step in the party's endorsement of fascism I'm thrilled to report Politico Playbook's top story is "Republicans say Democrats are bad"
It's just quotes from republicans who say republicans are good at gas prices and democrats are bad at it, and one of them is an authoritative analyst named kellyanne conway who must be credible otherwise why would she be quoted without any context about what she did previously
We're hearing that Trump is good and people like him. Our source is Republicans who like Trump. To confirm we checked with other Republicans who like Trump even more. In the news business this is referred to as double confirmation
