A little something to cleanse your feed for today. As many know, the City of #Southlake, TX has been at the center of a massive culture storm over the last several years. They’re not alone in this area of NE Tarrant County, but for this thread let’s stay here in Southlake 1/9
My daughter, Lauren, a Jr. Journalism major at @UNTsocial, called yesterday & wanted to grab lunch. As any Dad who’s 20 yr old girl calls to have a lunch date would, I jumped at the opportunity 😍 It was a cold day & we were diggin’ some Pho, so Pho BAE in #Southlake it was 2/9
It was so great to catch up with my baby girl and hear about her upcoming projects, and all going on in her world. I’m so proud of her. The food was great and, while it was cold outside, my heart was warm. As we neared the end of our meal, our waiter came over to check on us 3/9
Before he walked away, he said “And I just want y’all to know your bill was taken care of.” Lauren and I looked at each other in disbelief, then looked back at him. “That’s so sweet - who did that?”Lauren said. What he said next reinforces the good that still exists in the 🌎4/9
He said “there’s a man who’s a business owner here in Southlake & just comes in from time to time & does this. He never wants recognition. He says he knows how much he’s been blessed & wants to bless others.” The waiter then went to the next table, explaining the same thing. 5/9
Lauren and I looked around, hoping to catch a glimpse of this mystery man but he was nowhere to be found. We’d both been handed a timely reminder that, while there may be levels of hate and intolerance evident in our society, don’t count out love, kindness, and hope. 6/9
It’s easy to see the bad, the negative, the ills of society. There is no shortage of reporting on those. But I encourage us all to look for, and be, the good. It’s out there. All around us. It’s in each of us. Don’t fall victim to apathy and frustration. Lean in to love. 7/9
We may not all be in a position to buy a meal for someone, but we all have our own unique ways of blessing others. Use what you have, wherever you are, to make the world brighter. In closing, I’d like to give a shout-out to some people in #Southlake fighting the good fight. 8/9
There are many wonderful citizens of @CityofSouthlake who are challenging the hate and intolerance that have worked to grab hold of their community - this mystery man being one. I’ll forever stand with them to embrace inclusivity, love, diversity, dignity, & justice for ALL. 9/9

Our country has seen some mighty dark days. In my lifetime, after most of these days, I’ve watched people from all walks of life come together in some powerful ways.
We usually hear cries of “Never Forget” in commemoration of these tragedies. 1/12
But I find it quite befuddling as to what some choose to “Never Forget”.
With various states passing legislation that seeks to minimize teaching true & accurate history of the United States we must step up and ask:
What happened to “Never Forget”? 2/12 edweek.org/policy-politic…
The indigenous people of this land we call home, characterized as “merciless Indian Savages” in our Declaration of Independence, were degraded, enslaved, robbed of their land, and slaughtered.
