Document from Ministry of Government and Consumer Services lists ALL college presidents, not just a small group, with the exception of @StClairCollege’s Pres. France (not sure what that’s about)
Ontario’s college presidents make great attempts to distance themselves from the CEC and present the CEC as somehow separate from them. We always knew this was dishonest, as the CEC operates on their behalf…
2/17
The truth is that college presidents literally ARE the CEC, essentially working on behalf of themselves under the name of a separate corporation. Very shadowy. Yes.
@jwbrown556, @bedford_darryl, and others have written wonderful, informative pieces about the CEC before.
3/17
The CEC does not publicly list their directors (why not?), so one of our colleagues performed a search through the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services ($38, what a deal) and it reveals…
4/17
the Directors of the CEC are:
- 23/24 college presidents (Pres. France is not on the list)
- 5 former presidents
- 24/24 Board of Governor Chairs
- 4 past BoG Chairs
- Graham Lloyd
I did the work of identifying who each one is and their institutional affiliation. If you want a copy of the file, you can message me.

College presidents seem to want @CAATfaculty, @CAATsupport, @CAATSupport_PT, students @CFSON@CSA_ON, and the public to believe that Graham Lloyd of the CEC is the Wizard, but the truth is, they are ALL behind the curtain orchestrating the entire thing.
7/17
They use “the CEC” to hide their actions, intentions, and feelings about workers, students, and our system, while spending A LOT of $ to push an unsustainable vision for our colleges that prioritizes profits over quality, integrity, & people.
They do this by exploiting students and workers, primarily through treating international students like cash cows and exploiting precarious contract workers (a large number of whom they have been fighting against since 2017 to deny them their right to be unionized).
9/17
Increased privatization of public education & union busting seem to be their primary goals. They do not appear to care about the responsibility our public college system has to improving lives and serving the people of this province.
10/17
Instead, they thumb their noses at faculty when we say, “Recognize the hours of work we are performing beyond the hours you give us”, “Don’t sell our work to private companies without our knowledge or consent”, “Do not outsource our jobs to private companies”…
11/17
…“Let’s have committees focused on equity, but ones that actually result in much-needed change”, “Bridge health benefits for precarious partial-load contract faculty, especially since it is at zero cost to the colleges”
12/17
It seems they would rather be unreasonable (I tweeted before re: their contradictory position on arbitration) and put the semester at risk, adding to the anxiety and disruption students are already experiencing, than to give up their obsession with power and control.
13/17
Free management tip: leadership is not about using the power you have to harm people, nor is it about working to try to disempower others.
14/17
So, instead of asking presidents to get the CEC to negotiate or agree to interest arbitration, we need to tell the presidents to do it, as the CEC = them. They’ve been getting a pass for way too long. It’s over. Cloak of invisibility is gone. We see you. Students see you.
15/17
To Ontario’s college presidents, on behalf of @CAATfaculty and our students, end this now.
A 🧵 on the CEC’s illogical position re: arbitration…
On the one hand, they (on behalf of the colleges) will not agree to voluntary binding interest arbitration because they “can never accept” any of @CAATfaculty’s remaining proposals
On the other hand, they WILL agree to final offer selection arbitration, which could lead to ALL remaining faculty proposals (the same ones they “can never accept”) being in our collective agreement.
2/6
This is a completely illogical position for them to take and reaffirms that this all boils down to trying to flex power, even if it comes at the expense of the faculty and students college leaders claim to care about and respect.
