The big agenda item of the Senate GOP today is to demand that Biden stop dithering and send the fighter jets immediately. If there's any positive development to emerge from this debacle, it's the final proof that the GOP is absolutely incorrigible and worthless on foreign policy
By the way, Josh Hawley signed the letter making this demand, so any "National Conservative" types still under the illusion that he's some kind of bold, orthodoxy-challenging thinker can drop the act
What? Yes he did. His signature is right above Hawley's. Cruz also signed. Not a great performance for National Conservatism Conference 2021 speakers.
The three big GOP speakers at the National Conservatism Conference (@NatConTalk) last fall were Hawley, Rubio, and Cruz. This was interpreted by some as evidence that the Conservative Movement was revamping its attitude on foreign policy. Yesterday, all signed the above letter

Wait, there are no reported deaths in the incident that people were saying was the final straw to launch WWIII?
Also bear in mind that these casualty figures are sourced to the Ukraine government, not any independent corroboration. So not even the “official” sources are claiming any deaths
International awareness of this incident was sparked by, of course, Zelensky tweeting about it within minutes. Few if any details have been independently corroborated. And we all know what Zelensky is lobbying for

“We will fight till the end, at sea, in the air,” Zelensky declared to the UK Parliament yesterday, theatrically echoing Churchill. His acting skills have really shone through as he masterfully tugs at the heart-strings of "the West" to inure them to the prospect of World War III
"Never before in all our centuries of our parliamentary democracy has the House listened to such an address," effused Boris Johnson, after a rousing standing ovation. Similar to the swelling emotional reaction reported by members of US Congress after Zelensky video-chatted them
"In his righteous defense, I believe he has moved the hearts of everybody in this House," Johnson proclaimed. "Moved" toward what exactly? Because in the address, Zelensky (once again) called for a No Fly Zone, just like he's been doing in all of these gripping Zoom addresses

UN reports 364 civilian deaths in Ukraine as of March 6. There were 7,206 civilians killed in Afghanistan between 2018 and 2019, according to the UN, while the US was a warring party. Let's not pretend there isn't extreme selectivity in the official outrage over civilian deaths
There could've been 10x or 20x that many civilian deaths in Afghanistan -- where the US was waging an intense aerial bombardment campaign and propping up the corrupt Afghan military -- and it still wouldn't have received even a fraction of the outrage now being devoted to Ukraine
Main reason: the usual distortions of US hegemony. And I don't play this card often, but I do think straight-up racism is a significant factor. There has never been anything close to this level of outrage over the 7-year civilian catastrophe in Yemen aided and abetted by the US

It's very simple: is Zelensky in the middle of a furious lobbying campaign to compel a No Fly Zone, or isn't he? He is. Would a No Fly Zone constitute war against Russia, or wouldn't it? It would. What's in dispute here? By all means, try to challenge either one of those premises
Are people going to pause and think for a second? Why is the media feverishly lionizing a foreign leader who is actively, explicitly lobbying for the instigation of World War III?
