When medical interventions result in long-term harm to the individuals who are on the receiving end, those harmed deserve help, compassion, and a voice. [thread 1/12]
March 12 is #DetransAwarenessDay: a day to recognize those harmed by the increasingly common hormonal and surgical “treatments” that facilitate a person passing as the opposite sex that they are. 2/

Make no mistake: Social contagion is real. Whole populations can quickly become enamored of certain positions, about which most individuals previously had no opinion. Those positions go from unknown to mandatory almost overnight. 3/
If you do not agree with the party lines on trans, on Covid, on Ukraine, you are guilty of WrongThink. 4/
Of course girls can become boys. Of course SARS-CoV2 came from a wet market, and causes a disease for which there is no treatment, except for extremely safe and effective vaccines. Of course Ukraine stands for all that is good in the world, and Russia all that is bad. 5/
Of course all the species have always looked the way they do now. Of course the continents have never moved. Of course the Earth is the center of everything. Our consciousness provides us insight, and the most amazing hubris this corner of our little galaxy has ever seen. 6/
What if we’re wrong, though? It wouldn’t be the first time. It won’t be the last. And the bit where the people with appropriate credentials and impressive clothing speak smugly to those who say “but wait a minute…” doesn’t change what is true. 7/
naturalselections.substack.com/p/whatifwerewr…
What the authorities speaking smugly to the rest of us *does* do is change what many *think* is true. Which is success if they’re trying to win a social game. But not if they’re actually trying to understand reality.

Authorities who play these games are taking lives. 8/
Detransitioners speak out about the harms done to them because no adult in their sphere successfully stood up for them when they were but confused children or young adults, and they are silenced. Vaccine-harmed people and their families speak out, and are similarly silenced. 9/
Coming soon: Iconoclasts, which contains an array of voices, on an array of topics. I’ve only seen my own contribution, but it will be obvious to anyone looking at the Table of Contents that I won’t agree with some of what is found here: 10/
iconoclast-culturewars.com
From my essay: “Children’s flights of fancy, their fantasies that could be their greatest strength as they imagine all of the ways to be human, should never be cemented into permanence. That risks turning their greatest strength into their greatest tragedy.” 11/
I would have thought, until just about yesterday, that we could all agree that profiting on the pain and mutilation of children is immoral.

Apparently we cannot all agree on that, or on anything anymore.

War Is now Peace. Freedom Is Slavery. Ignorance Is Strength. /end

Coming tomorrow: A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century.

“We must seek the next frontier: the event horizon, beyond which we cannot see, from which we cannot return, but through which may be our salvation.”

Respectfully, Secretary Reich, you have drunk the Kool-Aid.

Not that it should matter, but I’m a liberal. And, for 15 years, I was a college professor, an educator. I saw first-hand the damage that Critical Race Theory wrought.
At its founding, CRT was indeed interested in “the role that race has played in American politics, policy, and law.” Now, though? It’s a weaponized bludgeon used to move power from one place to another, without doing anything to change the underlying dynamics that got us here.
CRT sounds honorable and important, but instead of teaching actual history, with a diversity of viewpoints, it shuts down conversation, weakens people by assuring them that their true identity is “victim,” and pits us all against one another. It makes us more tribal.

Dude, please. “GOP supporters believe that rampaging mobs burned and looted major cities”?

I’ve never voted GOP (not that it should matter), and I know—not believe, *know*—that a tiny but rampaging mob continues to do damage in Portland on the regular. [thread 1/11]
Saturday, April 17, downtown PDX. The night before, yahoos set a dumpster & the bathrooms on fire outside the Apple store. Awning is gone, tree is charred.

Burned to the ground? No.
Insane to accommodate this kind of behavior? Yes.
Insane to deny it is happening? Also yes. 2/
New graffiti nearby from the same night. This is the sentiment that you are de facto defending when you claim this isn’t happening, or that all the protest is peaceful, or indeed, that this particular thing has anything to do with protest at all. This is raw, vengeful hate. 3/

Ignorance, arrogance, and the wielding of credentials to shut down discourse: a triple threat.

When these three characteristics show up in one place, I feel a responsibility to at least slow the spread of misinformation. Here we go. [thread 1/26]
We are all ignorant of some things. Ignorance should be forgiven. 2/
Add arrogance and you have a problem brewing: an undeservedly confident tone that spews garbage will be confusing to some people, people who do not deserve to be confused by the ignorant, arrogant person in their feed. 3/
