Nigerian Defence Minister Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi (r) met Pakistani Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa yesterday in Islamamad. Both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral cooperation.
The Pakistani Army Chief, Gen Bajwa said Islamabad considers Nigeria as a key nation in African continent while he also hailed Nigeria’s role towards regional peace and stability.
Pakistan has become Nigeria's most strategic defence ally in recent years. They assisted Nigeria in the maintenance of the F-7Ni fleet and Periodic Depot Maintenance for the NAF C-130 Hercules aircraft.
Pakistan once loaned 10 Super Mushshak trainer aircraft for the early training of NAF instructor pilots and ground crew while Nigeria awaited the delivery of 10 Super Mushank trainers ir ordered
from Pakistan
The first batch of the trainer aircraft was received in July 2017 for the primary flying training of NAF pilots at 401 Flying Training School, Kaduna.
And of course there is biggest arms deal yet between both countries, the JF-17 fighter jets.

Xraying the first truck mounted howitzer of the Nigerian army, the Norincho SH105mm wheeled self propelled howitzer.
Placing artilery units unto the back of trucks that can actually then fire from long distance and be mobile at the same time can sometimes make the difference between victory or defeat.
Heavy artillery has always been the forte of the Nigerian army. In previous wars the army has had little problem bringing its biggest guns to bear on the enemy.
Chadian military leader Mahamat Idris Derby sent troops to Dafur Sudan to prevent the spillover of Darfur crises into Chad. Derby said : " Tribal problems should not be exported Chad".
Why is this significant? They take the territorial integrity of their country very serious.
The day we take our territorial integrity serious enough that reprisals and proactive measures are 100% certain, is the day cross border attacks from ISWAP, illegal flow of arms into Nigeria or incidents of Cameroonian forces harassing Nigerian community ends.
Chad once closed its border with Libya over the of threat of a potential terrorist attack, to forestall terrorist infiltration into the country. This was in 2017 i think. This is what Chads Prime PM Albert Pahimi Padacket said a message broadcast on television to the people
Last week the International Maritime Bureau said Nigeria's Integrated Maritime Surveillance and Security architecture is the most advanced in the world. I actually thought this was hyperbole.
This is NIMASA Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence Centre.
Integrated into the Falcon Eye we have a system that can see and monitor a staggering 2.35 million square kilometre expanse of the Atlantic Ocean that borders 20 West African nations
Nigeria took it upon herself to tackle maritime insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea.
Though there where naval exercises with other navies, they were mereky symbolic gestures of cooperation. Unlike in Somalia, which had no navy and thus allowed foreign navies to fire on ships, only Nigerian naval forces are allowed to be armed in our large territorial waters.
We all believed that Russia will have a much easier time overwhelming the Ukranians. The Ukranians are proving to be resilient, due to weapons pouring into Ukraine from NATO members.
The crippling sanctions and the doggedness of Ukranian puts Putin in a difficult situation. The longer the war drags on, the costlier it becomes for a Russia that is gradually running out of resources and is increasingly isolated.
When you have a Russian minister warning NATO shipment of arms pouring into Ukraine will be seen as legitimate targets, and within 24 hours Russia attacks a military base being used to funnel weapons to Ukraine, 12km from the Polish border.
So this has been a huge shock. Our $596 million Super Tucano did not come with the full package. The NAF is yet to receive precision strike equipment for the A-29. So it took over 8 years to take delivery of the A-29, yet the most critical component is yet to be delivered.
The NAF made a conscious decision to aquire some of the most advanced precision guided munitions money can buy. The Philipines, Mali, Burkina Faso etc all operate Super Tucanos, aquired from the parent company Embrae in Brazil. But at a far more affordable cost.
Mali aquired 12 Super Tucanos for $180 million. Nigeria could have done the same if it wanted to, afterall airframe is basically the same. But Nigeria wanted advanced precision strike capability for its Super Tucano.
The war in Ukraine has proven that the concept of using land based rocket artillery against seaborne targets might be practical under certain circumstances.
Rememeber this Russian warship Vasily Bykov?
This is the Russian warship that ordered Ukranian soldiers manning a Black sea outpost on Ukraine's Snake Island to surrender.
The soldiers reply " Go f**k yourself" was heard round the world.
The guided missile corvette Vasily Bykov have been destroyed by Ukranian troops. They used a smaller vessel to lure the Russian ship closer to shore where a hidden rocket artillery could open fire. As it came within range the MLRS systems unloaded on the Russian warship.
