How US Propaganda is made:

Washington Post Aug 3rd, 2016 post it claim to be a grainy pic of Chinese peasant suffering frm Great Leap Forward.

It's actually WW2 photo by Harrison Forman of 1943 Henan Famine in KMT controlled area: collections.lib.uwm.edu/digital/collec…

I suspected that's NOT a Great Leap Forward photo bc cloth more pre-1949 than 1959-1963.

When I did Google image search, just get Great Leap Forward results. with top search result in Wapo and RFA articles. I realized I need to change the auto populated search terms...
When I changed the search term to Chinese 饥荒 (famine), suddenly all results are about 1942 Henan Famine. Finally found a Chinese article reference American photographer Harrison Forman.

So then I perform separate search for Harrison Forman archives in English
Searching "Harrison Forman Henan" led me to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Harrison Forman collection of China photos.
Harrison Forman had 1057 photos of Henan alone. "Henan Famine" narrowed down to 411 results. I clicked thru each page til I found this photo which showed the same people just in different pose. That's when I was convinced that I'm on the right track

Looking at subject terms, I changed search term to "Famines Children", it narrowed down to 63 results. That's when I finally found what I was looking for.

Henan already suffering aft Chiang Kai-shek ordered Yellow River dike blown up to stop Japanese, was hit by drought and locusts. But KMT continued to requisition grain for soldiers...

Han Fei was a prince of Han, the weakest state of 7 kingdoms in Warring States era. He wrote books as advice/admonition for his King.

King of Qin read his books became a fan and forced Han to send Han Fei to his court. Han Fei was killed by his old friend jealous of his talent Image

Lots of people asking how is Chinese media covering the war in Ukraine. I have to think a moment what makes up Chinese media.

Because most Chinese people get their news frm social media where state media is only a part of the ecosystem.
With millions of Chinese people abroad and tens of millions using VPN in China.

News frm major foreign outlets and social media like Twitter/Instagram gets shared on Chinese social media Wechat in real time. bypassing the Great Fire Wall.
Chinese people abroad are translating news frm English, Russian, French, German, Spanish and feed them back on Chinese social media. I was part of that.

This was during height of KMT offensive in Chinese Civil War. Mao led a small force to play hide and seek w KMT’s 300,000 army in Shaanxi.

Mao was always 1 step ahead because KMT commander’s personal secretary is a Communist mole who fed KMT plans to Mao
Communist mole Xiong Xianghui 熊向晖, aide-de-camp to KMT commander Hu Zongnan who led 300,000 troops to attack Communist HQ in Yan’an in 1947.

Xiong fed KMT battle plans to Mao. Mao then led KMT troops on a wild goose chase in the Shaanxi countryside Image
