This is so bizarre. This week’s @bbc Media Show asks ‘Why are Russian oligarchs only now in the spotlight?’

& ‘Why is it only now that the mainstream press has put the oligarchs in the spotlight?’

WHAT?!? We at @guardian & @ObserverUK did. The problem is @bbc NEVER followed up

This, I believe, is what is known as ‘gaslighting’.

@lukeharding1968 & @skirchy & @JulietteGarside & @nickhopkinsnews & @TownsendMark & I & many more have been filing these stories over years. The problem has not been ‘the press’, it’s been the national broadcaster

It is extraordinary for eg how BBC failed to cover this @ObserverUK. Boris Johnson met Lebedev snr, an ex colonel with the KGB, in November 2019.

It is wildly misleading of BBC to claim ‘mainstream press’ didn’t cover these stories. We did! @bbc didn’t

This framing is really off. BBC’s media show needs to start reporting on itself.
First up: can BBC media editor @amolrajan, friend & ex editor of Lebedev, interview himself on why *he* didn’t cover these stories? Second: the total BBC blindspot on Farage/Banks. What’s the deal?

Please don’t use my tweets to personally attack @amolrajan. This is not the point or intention of that. It’s for BBC bosses to ensure no conflict of interest. But this episode highlights absurdity of reporting on UK media while ignoring most powerful media org of all: the BBC.
