This morning @FaceTheNation refused to invite a Democrat on to have a chance to respond to false claims made by Mitch McConnell, the latest in a string of pro-GOP bookings by @margbrennan and CBS News in an ongoing campaign to spread misinformation to the public on a news show
The network Sunday shows, led overwhelmingly by @FaceTheNation, are responsible for spreading misinformation to millions of people every week by inviting insurrectionists and proven liars onto their platforms, refusing to allow Democrats to respond, and not challenging their lies
This is a gross distortion and @margbrennan literally agrees with it by saying “yeah”
The New York Times hired a Republican from Politico, Blake Hounshell, and is falsely identifying him as a neutral reporter as he helps the most severe insurrectionists erase their role in planning the Jan. 6 attack. His job is to write about how they're exciting "upstarts"
Literally all this guy does is talk to people who tried to overturn the election — a thing he *fucking agrees should have happened* — and write about them like they're fucking wisdom-bursting cherubs
Just identify him as a Republican writer instead of a journalist, which is obviously a lie! How is there this little accountability at the new york times — even the republican columnists there are probably like uhhh yeah this guy is bunching up in his jorts for kevin mccarthy wtf
This is an American news outlet reprinting Russian propaganda in bad faith, clearly and stubbornly. The Kremlin propagandists who pushed this into US media are Kevin Liffey and Helen Popper. @Reuters has not been held accountable for any of the pro-Putin false messaging it prints
Reporters who quote, with no context, the people who tried to overturn the election as if they deserve the default of credibility every day are effectively endorsing the Big Lie and telling you that you should believe them
“January 6th never happened” is the position of every reporter who quotes Kevin McCarthy without mentioning his leading role in the largest misinformation campaign in modern U.S. history
It is painfully easy to apply a bare minimum of accountability to insurrectionists — just add a clause after their name so it says “McCarthy, who spread the Big Lie that the election was stolen” — but almost all reporters don’t do this because they want to protect Republicans
Shouldn’t journalists apologize for falsely reporting that McCarthy “condemned” Greene and Gosar? It’s been a week and nothing’s happened so his claim that there’s “no place” in the Republican Party for white nationalists is obviously a lie right? Hello? Do we follow up on stuff?
I hold powerful people accountable, that’s why every night I put my head in the microwave to melt the part of my brain that retains memories so the next morning I can ask Kevin McCarthy if he has any thoughts on the news of the day that I can relay to the public for him
Looks like a lot of reporters pushed this out for McCarthy even though it was a lie. Should we follow up to report it wasn’t true or just keep asking him What Makes Biden Bad Today
On May 16 Reuters published a Russian propaganda video of Putin scoring hockey goals. The game was fake so Putin could win
Today Reuters published a Russian propaganda video of tanks in snowy Kyiv despite reports that it’s not snowing
This is how US media helps push propaganda
Some critics like to use the phrase “the media is failing you” but in this case the media is not failing. It’s doing exactly as it’s intended: to help people in power promote the content they want you to see. If you think journalism is about accountability you’re a professor
“Putin scores goals in all-star ice hockey game - News” is a headline written by @Reuters journalists who told their families that day that they had a good day at work
Today @chucktodd put two Republicans — Peggy Noonan and Bush/Trump ambassador Bill Taylor — on his “panel of journalists” while refusing to invite any Democrats
The other panelists were 3 journalists from the Washington Post, PBS, and NBC
