In honor of Endometriosis awareness month I’m shedding light on a disease that affects more than 10% of women around the world.
Not many people know but in February of 2020 I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis after years of suffering and doctors dismissing my concerns. Before I was diagnosed I didn’t know anyone with this condition
This past February, I had my second laparoscopy surgery and through it all I thank God and am super appreciative of all the support I received from friends and family during my recovery process.

If you ladies are on facebook I suggest everyone follow Nancy’s nook. Its an educational endometriosis group thats very helpful with questions and has plenty of resources. Also theres plenty of endometriosis support groups on facebook as well!
Fyi painful periods are NOT normal. It could be endometriosis, cysts, fibroids, adenomyosis, etc. But don’t let your doctors tell you its normal because its not. Don’t be afraid to voice your concerns and be heard!
Due to lack of research women are often misdiagnosed and can take 10+ years for correct diagnosis. For women of color it can be even harder to get an accurate diagnosis due to racial inequality.
Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows in places it shouldn’t. This ends up causing symptoms such as painful periods, issues with bowel movements, continuous pelvic pain, chronic fatigue, hip, leg, joint, back pain, stomach pain, etc.
Because it is an inflammatory disease it can cause internal bleeding, scarring, lesions, cysts, and overall chronic pain. Some women have pain everyday, others every few weeks, some once a month and others randomly.
There is NO cure for endometriosis but surgery is the standard treatment to help women relieve some of their pain. Pelvic floor therapy can every be offered to help as well.
Even* oops
Endometriosis can also affect men! I’m sorry I didn’t mention that.
When I say “painful periods” I’m referring to extreme painful periods that don’t get better with medication or force you to put your life on hold every month for your period. You shouldn’t be in so much pain you cant go on with daily activities.
Endometriosis in men is extremely rare. I don’t know much on it so I cant speak on that but I should have included that it isnt just a women disease.
