I’ve been chased, snuck up on, posted about, photographed, videoed, called vile names, harassed, threatened, some clinic harassers somehow found out my name and scream at me, yelling my full name into the ether when I dare show up at my place of employment.
Screaming about sexual assault, yelling about “arms and legs”, yelling slurs and racist/xenophobic stereotypes at people entering the building, threatening hellfire, following closely, blocking driveways, stalling traffic, calling 911 when someone accidentally parks in wrong lot.
“Tell her not to do this. Be a man! Stop her!” they yell at partners. “Don’t let her kill your grandbaby!” they yell at mothers of teens.
We can’t say #ThxBirthControl without acknowledging the history of reproductive violence and coercion. 🧵
I love birth control! I love that it is a tool that allows people to choose when/if they have children. I love contraceptive counseling and assisting patients in achieving goals.
I hate inequitable access & reproductive coercion.
Historically, Black, Indigenous, and Latinx people, people with disabilities, poor people, and incarcerated people, have been systemically abused in the development of contraception.
