Before the war, Oleksiy Timofeev, a founder of Timofeev Trekking, had spent over 20 years leading hikes in the Carpathian Mountains. When Russia attacked Ukraine, Oleksiy gathered a team of devoted volunteers in just three days.

Since then, rain or shine, with temperatures dropping sometimes to 10 below zero, his Team Cook has prepared over 7000 servings of food and had only one day off, and that is only because of the citywide curfew.

Oleksiy named the trailer Tanechka in honor of his wife who he’s been separated from since the beginning of the war. Just like countless Ukrainians, Oleksiy has family and friends who are scattered across the country, so every day is fraught with anxiety.

Oleksiy keeps his team’s spirits up and inspires others to volunteer in his social media posts: “I’m proud to have been born in Ukraine. I might even be a descendant of the Zaporizhzhia Cossacks. And I do not doubt that the victory is ours!”
