On 6 January 2022, Ruslan #Zhubanazarov went to a peaceful protest and did not take part in the pogroms. Ruslan was shot dead on the morning of 7 January 2022. The parents are not given a medical certificate as to the cause of Ruslan's death.

Ruslan's family could not receive Ruslan's body for almost a month. Nurotan staff called Ruslan's father offering help, but later Nurotan and Akimat staff told Ruslan's father not to look for the cause of Ruslan's death.

On 4 March 2022, the Institute of Forensic Examinations for Almaty Oblast of the Ministry of Justice of Kazakhstan concluded that Azamat Batyrbaev, who was beaten and tortured with an iron, sustained light injuries.

On 6 January 2022, at about 10 a.m., he was taken away by six unknown persons. An investigation is now underway where he is suspected under Article 269 part of the Criminal Code. He is accused of allegedly being at the airport and "stopping" planes.
