*MCCONNELL: I CANNOT AND WILL NOT SUPPORT JUDGE JACKSON
The last time Mitch McConnell voted for a Democratic nominee to the Supreme Court was in 1994 for Stephen Breyer, the same justice Ketanji Brown Jackson clerked for and has been nominated to replace.

Voting for Supreme Court nominees of the other party was pretty common in the previous century. But Roberts is the only pick to get more than 70 votes since 2000 (78).
Most sitting senators, including Schumer & Durbin, have *never* voted for a SCOTUS justice of the other party.
This also reflects nearly fully-sorted parties. There are very few abortion-rights-supporting Rs and vice versa, and that's a red-line issue for many primary voters in both parties.

Reminder: Republicans need to show up to the vote or there won't be a quorum. No quorum = no vote = no going to the Senate floor unless you have 60 votes or 50+VP+☢️. (See Sarah Bloom Raskin/Banking.)
Democrats boycotted vote on Barrett, so then-Chairman Lindsey Graham nuked the *committee's* special quorum rule. But the *Senate's* majority-quorum rule is different, and can't be changed in committee.
R senators have been saying they won't do this, fwiw.
Pat Toomey rallies Republicans against what he calls "mission creep" at the Fed, including a push by Democrats to weigh in with new regulations on climate risk. "I don’t think there should be a Politburo that gets to allocate capital in America." bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
Toomey has opposed Sarah Bloom Raskin over her previous calls for regulators to act on climate and complained the Fed has gotten behind the curve on inflation while wading into areas like racial justice and education policy not in their purview.
Toomey's now leading a blockade of Raskin in a dispute about the answers he says the Senate should be able to get from the Fed and Raskin about her role in Colorado firm Reserve Trust getting a master account at the Fed.
Lynching is about to become a federal crime. One senator partially responsible for preventing it from happening in the previous century: Richard Russell, whose name adorns the Senate’s most storied office building.
Chuck Schumer had proposed renaming the building after John McCain instead of Richard Russell, an arch-segregationist and opponent of civil rights. Some senior Republicans didn’t like the idea.
Last week Lindsey Graham told me he now wants to rename the Capitol Visitor Center for John McCain and John Lewis, the late lawmaker and civil rights icon.
