So, you don't know where anything is in GA4?

Well, guess what... You can rearrange all of your navigation in the secondary menu.

Wanna know how? Stick around ๐Ÿ‘‡

#GoogleAnalytics ๐Ÿงต/ 7
In the secondary menu for reports, there is a button for "Library."

This is where all of the reports are stored and sorted - these are the reports that make up your navigation (see where we are going ๐Ÿ˜)

When you get into the Library, select "Create New Collection"

2/7 ImageImage
A "Collection" is essentially a folder that holds your reports... Don't get lost, because we are going to talk about more folders in a second ๐Ÿ˜…

The next folder you will make is a "Topic" folder. You do this by creating a new topic.

TOPIC NAMES = Navigation button name

3/7 Image
Now, each of these folders must have an "overview" report and a "detail report"

overview - summaries
detail - very specific dimensions

All of the reports you choose from are the default reports Google has created for you (until I show you how to make your own reports ๐Ÿ˜‰)

4/7 Image
Once you've added all of the topics and reports you would like to in your new navigation, just hit "Save."

You will now see your Collection in the Library, but not in your secondary menu. To get it to appear in the nav, click the 3 dots in the top right of the card...

5/7 ImageImage
A drop down will appear and you will find the option to "Publish," publishing your Collection will make it appear on your navigation!

If you want the other Collections to NOT show up, just hit the three dots and select "Unpublish" ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Yikes! We only have a little over 4 days before UA goes caput โ˜ ๏ธ

Are you ready?? I just want to make sure... ๐Ÿ˜ณ

For instance, did you know that if you're sending parameters using GTM, you HAVE to set them up as custom dimensions in #GA4 in order to see them? โš™๏ธ

Here's how ๐Ÿ‘‡
To define your dimension:

1๏ธโƒฃ Go to the admin section and find "Custom Definitions"
2๏ธโƒฃ Click on "Create custom dimension"
3๏ธโƒฃ Select the desired parameter you'd like to show in your reports
4๏ธโƒฃ Give it a name and create the dimension
Now you have some options:

1๏ธโƒฃ Click the blue plus sign โž• and navigate to "Custom" to add the custom dimension to your current report for temporary inclusion.

2๏ธโƒฃ Click the pencil icon โœ๏ธ in the top right corner of the report to make it a permanent part of your reports.

Ope! Need to track Phone Calls or Emails from your website in GA4?

Not need for GTM, these events can be created and tracked right in GA4 thanks to enhanced measurement ๐Ÿ”ฅ

I'll show you how ๐Ÿ‘‡
With enhanced measurement (which is on out of the box in GA4), outbound link clicks are tracked AND so are the link parameters...

This means that we can use these parameters to create custom events. Image
In the Admin section, navigate to the Property column and select "Events".

From here, you're going to click the "Create event" button in the top right.

On this screen you will create an event name (or use one of the suggestions from Google) Image

Thinking about creating a GA4-focused paid Substack for those who don't want an entire course, are looking for bite-sized pieces of content, and want some extra goodies (think data studio templates/tutorials and such)

Would y'all be into that?

Example pieces of content below ๐Ÿ‘‡
Short and to the point videos like this

So, this is frustrating...

You want to pull everything from Search Console into Data Studio so that you can see ALL of your queries and make it pretty โœ…

But then you go to compare period-over-period and you can't sort by the delta?! LAME ๐Ÿ‘Ž

Well, let's try this

1/๐Ÿงต Image
With the data source open, select "Blend Data"

When the editor opens, select "Join Another Table" and select the same data source.

Now here comes the fun part...

2/9 Image
You have two tables with THE SAME data source

But

One table should use the *last 28 days* date range

The other should have an ADVANCED date range of
๐Ÿ‘‰ Today minus 56 days
to
๐Ÿ‘‰ Today minus 28

(or whatever the period is you'd like to use, 30 days, month, etc)

Did you know that the default session time out in #GA4 is THIRTY MINUTES?! ๐Ÿ˜…

So, someone can be on your site for 29 minutes and 50 seconds and *totally* screw up your average engagement time...

It can be avoided though, here's how to change it ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿงต 1/5
In the primary navigation, click through to the admin module โš™๏ธ and go to your data streams.

You will need to make this change to each data stream ๐Ÿ™„, so just click on the first stream you see.

Clicking into the stream will take you to the "stream details" ๐Ÿ“‘

2/5
When in the stream details, look for "additional settings" and "more tagging settings"

Once you click into more tagging settings, you'll see options to change all sorts of settings...

but for this specific change, you'll need to go to
๐Ÿ‘‰ "adjust session timeout"
