In a speech delivered to a gathering of Russian artists on Friday, the president decried western “cancel culture”, which he said was now trying to eradicate Russia’s contributions to the cultural canon

He went on to claim that the West was trying to cancel composers such as Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Rachmaninov, a possible reference to the decision by the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra to remove Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture from its programme
