#Migration flows as an civilisational issue.
Five things:
- #community_identity
- sudden infrastructure provision
- terms of movement
- resource provision
- economic absorption. #Ageing will also be another issue influencing how and where people move.
Migration - people are going to move because of changing climate from food security and sudden weather events.
This will mean that receiving communities have to think about identity change. Civic leaders have to think about adaptability from their histories.
Receiving communities have to think about sudden infrastructure provision
And then there's the economic absorption - how to integrate the people coming, socially and economically
And then there's the terms of movement - what are the rules that migrants are going to live by. And movement is going to be two-way - people are going to move and return depending on changing circumstances. Not always going to be permanent.
Ageing is another wrinkle. Depends on shifting demographics in receiving and source communities.
Wishful thinking 1: "end of history" is here. Liberal Democracy is here. Everyone will converge there. Wrong. An open, free society needs to be actively defended, not taken for granted.
Wishful thinking 2: Liberal Democracy is Compatible with Anti-Regulatory Short-Term-istic Capitalism - no, its not. We created societies with "races to bottoms" - traded deep thinking for shallows, unable to invest in long-term.
