WOW! I just had a Labour candidate and 2 campaigners knock the door. My daughter answered and told them I had covid, when she brought their leaflet in and I realised who had been at the door I rushed over and called them back (asking them to stay back as I was positive). /1
I was completely unprepared and I am not the best at explaining myself but I couldn't just let them walk off. I exained I was voting on a single issue and I wanted to ask something that no one seems able to answer... what is a woman? /2
They all immediately looked uncomfortable and laughed and the campainers tried to answer by using words like 'assigned' and 'gender'. One even told me I was a woman lol! Yes I know I am a women but please define woman lol /3
I explained that a woman is an adult human female to which the female campaigner said 'ah yes'. The conversation moved on and I asked the candidate if he had heard of Lia Thomas, he said no so I explained that Lia was currently dominating womens swimming in the US /4
and was a biological male and that the same was happening here and did he think that was fair? At this point the candidate put his phone to his ear (I didn't hear it ring or vibrate) and started wandering off. He hadn't said a word to me, he didn't even give his name. /5
The female campaigner tried to tell me that she had done some sort of course and that I couldn't define a woman the way I was trying to. I again said that I am an adult human female which is the only definition of a woman /6
and that we need words to describe ourselves, our bodies and our experiences. I then asked if they can not define me how can they protect me? If they can not define what a woman is how can they fight womens oppression? /7
By now the campaigners were following the candidates lead and were slowly walking away up the lane to the point I was having to peer around my door to speak to them. That's when I got annoyed and said it's fine, just walk away. At least I know who I am voting for now. /8
Their response was to laugh! I closed the door.
No wonder they say 'it never comes up on the doorsteps'. They walk away if it does! Shame on you #Labour! /end
