Putin accused Obama, Clinton, and me of seeking to overthrow his dictatorship a decade ago. (I wrote a book about it.) Biden's comment added nothing new to Putin's worldview or his propaganda on this issue. THREAD 1/
And to state the obvious, the US is NOT trying to overthrow Putin's dictatorship. If the USG was, Putin's intelligence services would have shown you bank accounts of CIA money for Russian opposition leaders long ago. They haven't because they don't exist. 2/

Dmitry Medvedev outlined in detail to the Guardian under what conditions Russia would use nuclear weapons. Note what he said and did not say. THREAD 1/
"Number one is the situation, when Russia is struck by a nuclear missile." 2/
"The second case is any use of other nuclear weapons against Russia or its allies," 3/

I made a mistake. I apologize. I will never make comparisons to Hitler again. Without historical analogizing, I will keep my analysis and comments focused on the present evil -- Putin.
And now moving on.
To be clear, I was, of course, mistaken when I implied that Hitler did not kill ethnic Germans. German Jews were a vibrant part of the German population and so many of them were brutally murdered by the Nazi regime. Our discussion was about Putin killing Russians in Ukraine

Russians do not all think alike. They also don't consume the same news. Let's break it down a little (yes I know its twitter, so just a little). 1/ THREAD
As a general rule, the more urban, educated, rich, and young you are n Russia, the less likely you are to support Putin or watch his state-controlled tv channels. These people tend to get their news from social media, internet sources, etc. 2/
As a general rule, the more rural, less educated, poorer, and older you are n Russia, the more likely you are to support Putin and watch his state-controlled tv channels. These people tend to get their news television. 3/

“Он [Путин] просчитался с нападением на Украину. THREAD 1/

"In invading Ukraine, he [Putin] has miscalculated." 1/ THREAD.
"After 22 years in power, he is now profoundly isolated, surrounded only by yes men who have cut him off from accurate knowledge about the resilience of the Ukrainian people, the resolve of the West, the low morale for this war within his army ..."
"... and the unpopularity within Russian society of the senseless invasion. The initial attack has not gone according to plan. Now Putin feels cornered and compelled to double down: both in the conduct of the war and in words."

From his jail cell, @navalny has called for Russians to protest against this war. The very least we can do from afar is support Navalny's position (just as we did with Mandela decades ago.) 1/ THREAD
But of course, every Russian must make a personal decision about how to express their disgust with this war. Not everyone can risk being arrested. But no one can continue to do nothing. 2/
Those with resources can leave Russia. I know many doing just that. Keep leaving. (I hope my government will welcome these refugees.) 3/
