Very excited to be having our @WUSM_BMB top junior faculty candidates back for second visits. Getting offers sent out to them now. Excited but anxious, as they folks are fantastic, and many places are trying to recruit them as well. For anyone on the job search, a couple tips 1/
for this part of the faculty recruitment process. This second visit is important, please make sure to let the institution know about people you didn't meet in the first interview, that you'd like to meet now, especially those outside of the dept. Collaborations and 2/
interactions are important, so you want to meet as many new people as possible. You should also be meeting grad students and postdocs from the dept during this meeting as well. Be candid and ask them exactly what they think of the dept and institution. You probably get pretty 3/
Chair of graduate admissions for a long time, and I've seen many great candidates not do well on grad school interviews, especially URMs. Here are some thoughts I have on this to hopefully help those interviewing this year. 1/
You will absolutely be asked to describe your research experiences. Know the big picture/significance of the work, and also the finer details of what you specifically did experimentally. What would you do if you could continue to work on the research project longer term? 2/
You will most likely get a list of faculty that you will interview/meet with. Do your hw and look up what they do, as they will most likely give you a brief idea of their work. You want to be able to have a conversation about their research and ask a good question or two. 2/
