Why are we angry at FB, but not MS? Because Word is interoperable, so you have a choice. If you have Word, you chose it (over Libreoffice, Pages, Gdocs).
Choice lets us test claims to superiority. If more people have Word, it's because they prefer it. We don't know that about FB.
Proof of work has shown itself to be secure against 51% attacks, so maybe it's an alternative that can let us determine if centralized systems are truly superior
But all the services are not safe, and are highly centralized. Smart contacts are riddled with security defects.
(I think this analysis needs more depth/nuance - security is contextual and without some discussion of what 'safe' means, 'proof of work is safe' isn't falsifiable)
