No more Gog to lead us on the Last Dash to the South. :(
"Crimea, Malorossiya, Novorossiya - these are all Russian lands [conquered from the Turks by Russian force of arms]. If the question of Ukrainian independence arises, it will only be within the bounds of the six westernmost provinces." - Zhirinovsky, 1991.
His views were quite eclectic. E.g., in interview with Dud', he supports gay rights (3:30), speaks highly of Hitler, endorses radical life extension ("better 300 years carrion than 30 years fresh meat"), and says Lisbon is his favorite city. Powerful.
Unfortunately, I only got to see Zhirinovsky in the flesh once, at a 2018 protest against the US persecution of Maria Butina in front of the US Embassy. unz.com/akarlin/moscow… He was certainly a superlative speaker.
As with Zhirik himself, the LDPR party platform has also long been a schizomaxxed amalgamation of all the political quadrants, loosely held together by Russian nationalism and his own cult of personality. unz.com/akarlin/zhirin…
Now that the Russian state has embraced Russian nationalism in all but name and with Zhirinovsky gone, I do not see a viable path forwards for the LDPR. Like most people, I strongly doubt it can outlast the death of its charismatic founder.

Looks like Fidesz is destroying the Atlanticist opposition, but the anime rightoids were telling me being pro-Russian is now the kiss of death, what are they going to say now I wonder.
An acquaintance who lives in Hungary says their shooting range now only has .22 LR and 9mm ammo in stock, sales of others has been restricted because government is stockpiling. Preparing for war or at least its contingency, I hear the Hungarians of Zakarpattia are repressed.

No doubt Russia has mistakenly killed some Ukrainian civilians. Sad, but inevitable given Ukraine military openly, proudly uses civilian vehicles in combat, and Zelensky de facto made francs-tireurs out of the entire population by legalizing civilian killings of Russian soldiers.
While I'm under no delusion as to normies' lack of critical faculties, still pretty funny to observe the outrage over Ukrainian atrocity propaganda, could've been credible if less grandiose but neo-Gulags for Mariupol/extermination of 16-60 y/o men is "babies in incubators" tier.
Though I suppose that proves the point, worked for the Iraq War, viagra handouts to promote rape worked for Libya, etc., so it's clearly a good strategy for increasing the level of Western support for Ukraine and looks set to be translated into more sanctions imminently.

Putin absurdly claims "success for Russia"

For once, it's me who's in shock and disbelief
As I said at the start, people like winners but despise losers, I expected major unrest if there's no significant territorial gains, but an outright defeat? I doubt Putin even lasts past EOY 2022 now. twitter.com/search?q=from%… No amount of propaganda can spin this into a victory.
On a more personal note, it's not just Putinism and Russian nationalism that have been discredited, but virtually all my commentary on Russia. unz.com/akarlin/russia…

My position is that stupidity needs to be brutally punished, and I apply this to myself no less than to others.

Ukrainian propagandists believe the vast majority of their followers are too lazy and stupid to pull up basic stats on housing construction, the WEF's quality of roads index, meat consumption, or even GDP per capita. And they are right to do so. 12k RT's. Image
Not going to go over this point by point, but one striking stat I pointed out over the years is that Ukraine (35M) annually constructs about as much new housing as Krasnodar Krai (5M) - or Belarus (10M). Post is from 2016 unz.com/akarlin/ukrain… but remained true to 2020/21.
And it's not because Ukraine's housing stock is already superb. Sumlenny types love to fantasize about Russian outhouses, which are almost exclusively a rural phenomenon, but share of Ukrainian houses without running water is twice higher (40% vs. 23%). genby.livejournal.com/845012.html Image

Sorry to break it to you, but Julia Ioffe makes the rules in your society, not Azov-respecting marginals. 🤷
Like it or not, if you're "dissident right" in the West, you're associated with Putin, a Russian defeat will be seen as the wages of runaway nationalism and you will be more marginalized than you already (people love winners, hate losers; you will be losers by association).
I'm certainly not reading lectures on what opinions any foreigner should or should not have, it's irrelevant anyway at the end of the day (because dissident right has no power), just drawing out some seemingly obvious at least to me consequences.

This is the same sort of charade people are engaging with as the earlier "softening" of Russian demands in negotiations. Well what happened to that narrative, Russian rhetoric and demands have sharply increased since then.
Ironically this non-stop triumphalist copium reduces the chance of an *actual* peace deal from very low to zero, since it's not only Ukrainian nationalists who are willing to torpedo any such but also Ukrainian normies under the impression they are winning. So more power to them.
Again, my position from the start was that if Putin is to blink, the vast bulk of the sanctions are not going away (can someone cogently explain why would Western politicians waste huge amounts of political capital on assuaging a loser country??).
