Really? This is what you’re going with? No ban unless it includes “trans”?

Ignore my opposition to the conflation of gay conversion therapy with “gender” and the good reasons the govt. have moved forward with gay conversion ban for a second… 1/
No ban without trans? You’d rather we keep gay conversion therapy unless you get exactly what you want? You’d actually support the continuation of gay conversion therapy? Tell me exactly why anyone LGB would now support LGBT. 🤷‍♂️ Image
I have absolutely zero shame now in wholeheartedly saying #LGBDropTheT
I wish I was in London. I’d counter protest this for the sheer spitefulness of that slogan.
Endorsed by @stonewalluk. At no point did you think “hmm this sounds like we would sacrifice LGB people in order to get everything we want for “trans””? And just said it - out loud?

This annoys me. Gay conversion therapy wasn’t and isn’t trying to change our “identity”. It’s very much trying to change our *behaviour* through coercion and force. 1/
Identity is in your head. It is something you can express to others - or not. Plenty of gay men still “identify” as straight to avoid homophobia but conversion therapy is motivated by trying to get us to *act* straight. Not to “be” - to *do* (and not do) 2/ Image
This is a huge reason why you can’t apply the same “logic” to gay conversion therapy and issues over identity. Identity can be a form of conversion therapy in of itself. The government is correct to separate these things. 3/3

What I don’t think you get is the Venn diagram of “trans woman” and “predatory men” - overlaps. Because the latter CAN identify as the former this is inherently the case. There is no way for a 3rd party to know who is in which circle. But we do know one thing…

Except when they do it of course. Then it’s ok because reasons. 🙄
Did they all oppose lockdown? Do they oppose Russian sanctions? Seems rather Cherry picking to me. Who’d have thought 🤷‍♂️ Image
Irony of course is that the U.K. conservatives aren’t especially “right wing” at the moment and rational people don’t “hate” people who don’t share their political views on everything. But there we go.

What a ridiculous question. But can people wake up and *listen to gay people*. Even though I never once felt shame for being gay, I did, at least once *wish* I was straight. I *wished* I could just be a girl and not face the annoying reality of being gay…1/
How can people not understand that often, the reasons behind *some people* declaring they “are in the wrong body” is driven by wishing they were “normal” and not have to face a society which is *still* homophobic. *especially* but by not means exclusively towards lesbians 2/
And that young people - especially children - might need to be *told* that no, you are your sex, humans can’t change sex and whatever you do to your body - you will never *be* the other sex. This isn’t “conversion therapy” it’s the truth. 😣 3/

Let me put it more simply.

Conversion therapy for gay people is an attempt - when it comes down to it - to coerce or force us to have sex and relationships with people we aren’t attracted to. 1/
What is called “trans conversion therapy” - when it comes down to it, is trying to prevent someone from having medical procedures to alter a healthy body via surgery and hormones - that don’t always improve quality of life, are often irreversible and have lifelong consequences 2/
Identities can’t be “converted”. Telling someone “you aren’t non binary” is like telling me I’m not a nerd/geek etc. This is about what people *do*, not what they are and it always has been. 3/

Why this is so tiring and pernicious.

The prerequisite for dating is for the other person to be male. That’s the essence of being a gay man. This is what we have been arguing and why this is - conversion therapy. 1/ Image
If you are dating then clearly one of the possible end points of that - is sex. If you date someone you have no desire for, or will not when it becomes clear they are not in fact male (the prerequisite), then that’s not a date, or it’s a date on false pretences 2/
Asking me - a gay man - to consider a female - ie a woman, let’s be clear, just because they have labelled themselves “a man” is entirely equivalent to the conversion rhetoric of “try butch women” which I was advised (and insulted by) 3/
