Attending @D2C_summit was enlightening. Here's what I've gathered from talking and listening to folks there - 🧵
The addressable size of the market for eCommerce in India by 2025 is $100B+. Plenty of room to grow in this vertical.
A majority of brands have emerged in the last 3 to 4 years, fuelled by growth from the pandemic and the need for mass customization.
Most brands are using #shopify as their platform of choice, even after scaling. The ecosystem around it is second to none.
The barriers to entry have never been lower with the rich ecosystem, but the cost to stand out is high. ~75% of the companies in the segment make annual revenue of < INR 20 crore.
Sustainable brands (and there are a lot of them) have to make tough calls that affect their bottom line to stick to their brand ethos
The team at #peesafe is the stuff of legends. To start talking about toilet sanitization in 2013 was a wild move that's paid off handsomely for them.
#quickcommerce (or Qcomm) - delivering F&B in under 2 hours - is in an unsustainable spot currently as both brands and marketplaces like Swiggy have to burn money to get into consumers' hands.
Most brands have to switch to becoming #omnichannel after their initial growth
Mapping user journeys when building #ecommerce sites is absolutely essential as a first step.
