15 years ago in Gujarat, two men named Shabbirbhai and Samadbhai converted a Hindu man named Ajitbhai Vasava to Islam in exchange for money.
On #conversion, Ajitbhai became 'Abdul Aziz'.
The trio then #converted 2 others, namely, Mahendra Vasava and Raman Vasava to 'Yusuf' and 'Aiyub' respectively.
Again, the conversion was facilitated through financial assistance (which violated the Gujarat Freedom of Religion Act of 2003).
These 5 people, namely, Shabirbhai, Samadbhai, Abdul Aziz, Yusuf and Aiyub then began working under the supervision of Islamic preacher Varyava Abdul Vahab Mahmood.
In 2018, they converted yet another man named Pravinbhai Vasantbhai Vasava to Islam.
After converting, Pravinbhai became 'Salman'. He was even forced to change his Aadhar card.
Salman, who was once Pravinbhai, wanted to reconvert to Hinduism but he was threatened.
Fearing his safety, he filed a complaint at the Aamod police station in Bharuch city of Gujarat.
In the FIR, he mentioned that the 6 accused have converted a whopping 37 Hindu families and 100 Hindus to Islam by offering them money and gifts.
They also converted a house, built with government funds, into an Ibadatgaah (Islamic place of worship).
Accused Yusuf, Aiyub and others also created a Whatsapp group where they spewed vitriolic content against the Hindu community through videos, speeches, and chats.
Islamic preacher Varyava Abdul Vahab Mahmood had even tried to lure people to Islam by gifting them air coolers, water coolers, lories, chatai (carpet) to perform Namaz, dresses, medicines, ration and cash.
On April 4, 2022, the Gujarat High Court dismissed the anticipatory bail petition of Varyava Abdul Vahab Mahmood.
Had it not been for the 'conscience' of Pravinbhai and his desire to reconvert to Hinduism after becoming Salman, we would have never known about the case.
