I think Bury Your Gays has a lot to do with timing. If queer happiness is fleeting, if death feels like a punishment for that happiness, that walks a dangerous line. I think my frustration with #KillingEve is that a. the source material gives them a happy ending b. The timing
We can’t be in a place where queer characters can never die, but there is a lot of nuance to BYG that should be considered by creators. Bly Manor was successful at having a queer character die without falling into this trope.
Also, if you court a queer audience, and know you have a dedicated queer audience, and you give them death as a payoff, it begs the question - did you value your audience?
Also, didn’t like every queer character meet a violent end?
As fans, you can feel however you want about this. You can love the ending, you can hate it. You can feel confused or disappointed. It’s just worthy of discussion.

I am deleting any tweets about particular fandoms because I am not trying to argue with anyone today when the goal is better representation.
I understand people feel passionate about their ships and my job is to support the representation you need. I'm not everyone's cup of tea and I get that.
I have made it my mission to go to bat for all kinds of fandoms. You can believe me when I say, I am never your enemy here. I am always your advocate.
The term queerbaiting has come up a few times over the past few days and I think it's important that we clarify what queerbaiting really is (and what it isn't)
Queerbaiting is the intentional hinting at and teasing of a queer relationship between characters with no intention of actually following through. It's like the carrot on the stick, which draws you in but never follows through. It was a common tv tactic in the early aughts.
Queerbaiting is not when queer characters take a while to get together or end up in an unpleasant situation. Queerbaiting is teasing a kiss, having characters "pretend" to be girlfriends for a mission, things like that. Think, Rizzoli and Isles.
