Canada, it's tax season! Instead of waiting a week before the deadline, why not take time to see what you can claim?

From work from home expenses to moving expenses, the Star's @madiwongg asks financial adviser @jessi_moorhouse to #MakeItMakeSense

thestar.com/content/thesta…
When are tax returns due?

The deadline is usually on April 30, but because it falls on a Saturday this year, Canadians now have until May 2. If you're self-employed, your deadline is extended further.

How will the pandemic impact my taxes?

Many may see changes on their tax returns due to the pandemic. This could mean owing more money if they weren’t taxed enough for previous COVID benefits or if you got a raise or changed jobs. thestar.com/content/thesta… Image
Additional tips on tax season

“Remember what a tax refund is. It means you overpaid your taxes. The government is literally giving you back the money that you’ve repaid. You paid too much and they’re like ‘Here’s your money back,’” said Moorhouse. thestar.com/content/thesta…

What is the XE variant?

XE is a recombinant variant, which means it is a combination of genetic material from two or more different viruses.

In this case, XE includes attributes of both BA. 1, the original Omicron strain, and BA.2.

#Breaking: Bank of Canada raises its key interest rate by half a percentage point to 1% torstar.co/5Fnh50IIM0k
“The invasion of Ukraine has driven up the prices of energy and other commodities."

It's the highest amount in more than 20 years. Experts warn that more rate hikes are coming as it increased its outlook for inflation.

thestar.com/business/2022/…
The stakes are high. Inflation is raging, labour is in short supply, and there's a heightened uncertainty around where Russia, China, and commodity prices will take us.

One false move, and we will be in another economic pickle, @hscoffield says #Analysis
