We visited the Manston detention camp in Kent yesterday. This is what we saw and heard: 🧵 Children ar Manston camp behind barbed wire fences, with sec
We arrived outside the camp and saw people - men, women, children - behind the barbed wire fences.

Security guards ordered them to go inside.

The children ran away from them and crawled through a fence to be heard. A protester waving to the people and children behind the bar
Using a megaphone, we managed to speak to people across the fence.

We asked them where they were from: Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Sudan.

Dozens of young children are being held at Manston detention camp in Kent.

Mothers, fathers, children and babies from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and elsewhere.

We went today and heard them chanting for their freedom.

This is persecution. FREE THEM AND CLOSE IT DOWN.
They told us "we need your help"

We went to protest and show solidarity with those inside Manston camp.

They told us about the conditions they are suffering under.

Yesterday, the police in Bristol responded to protests with horrific violence. We condemn both the police’s use of violence and brutality towards protesters and all attempts to delegitimise the #KillTheBill protests by denouncing violent protests
The police’s violence towards people last night is not unique and highlights a disturbing pattern of behaviour of manhandling, brutalising and abusing their power in not just protest situations but day-to-day policing.
