Somewhere inside the hills of yore,
She sat beneath the shade of trees;
"I've waited long, I'll wait some more,"
Her sighs were lost in gentle breeze. 1/
Anjanā closed her eyes and saw,
A vision of that haunting day;
The monkey sage, a sight of awe,
She turned, alas, naughty and fey! 2/
In fiery rage the sage had cursed,
"You've dared disturb me, wretched girl!"
At that moment she feared the worst,
She knew not what the sage would hurl. 3/
The sage, his eyes with anger red,
Cursed her, "A monkey shall you be!"
She shivered, trembled, cried in dread,
And feebly whispered words of plea. 4/
"O! holy sage," she said and choked,
The gardens of her birth seemed far;
And wisps of thoughts in her evoked,
Her life, which till then bore no scar. 5/
"O! holy sage," she pleaded still,
But beyond that she choked again;
She swooned atop the wretched hill,
Her tears hardly eased her pain. 6/
The sage, his anger ebbed, then sighed,
And looked at her with kindly eyes;
"Wake up," he said, "O, naughty child!"
She sat up, repentant and wise! 7/
"The curse will be lifted the day,
You bring forth in this world a son,
A son whose strength and pious way,
Will be unmatched and passed by none!" 8/
A flutter of the playful birds,
Brought Anjanā to present woes;
She thought she heard some whispered words,
Like wind speeding through mango groves. 9/
In front of her, a stir and swish,
Came Vāyu in His shapeless form;
"I know," said He, "your only wish,"
Her thoughts were churning like a storm! A/
"Anjanā, let go what you fear,"
He gave her blessed khīr from far;
"Partake this, O repentant dear,
And fulfil what you're waiting for." B/
A sip, and she felt surging through,
The blessings of the Lord of Time;
"Śiva, O Lord, whose Throat is Blue,
Śiva, O Lord, so blessed I am!" C/
On day the Moon was full and bright,
The month of Caitra, warm as morn;
Graced with matchless wit and might,
To Anjanā, a son was born! D/
"A playful lad," said Vāyu wise,
And taught him how to jump and leap;
The little one with playful eyes,
Roamed all around and knew no sleep! E// #ToBeContinued

One day, He woke up all alone;
Hungry, He looked for what to eat;
The yonder morning Sun then shone,
"A mango!" thought He, "What a treat!" 1/
So up He leapt and rose so high,
The morning birds were shocked and stunned;
Beyond the dark clouds He sped by,
The Sun seemed amused at the stunt! 2/
The amusement was gone, alas!
"What does He want?" asked Sūrya numb;
The radiant God was left aghast,
And pleaded all the Gods to come! 3/

Does anyone ever ask for a small round of applause?
Why state-of-the-art and not state-of-the-science?
What other shifts exist other than paradigm shift?

As shadows of the night grew long,
We gathered round the radio new;
Our breaths held for the latest song,
And then your soulful notes came through! /1 #Latājī
The voice, O! lovely lilting voice!
We swayed our heads and closed our eyes;
The dulcet tones, what simple joys,
In that moment we touched the skies. /2
In some place else, a different time,
A time of youth, table for two;
The empty chair, a wistful rhyme,
And cold became the cup of brew. /3

The Greeks gave us democracy,
The Romans gave us numbers;
If not for their presence, you see,
We'll all be dumb-and-dumbers.

The French taught us revolution,
And gave us Left and Right;
Imagine our evolution,
Without this great divide.
The Germans gave maths and machines;
Philosophies galore;
If not for half-moustache obscene,
They would've given us more!

The British, too, gave us in spate,
They built all roads and tracks;
Without knowing their language great,
What worth our thoughts and acts?
Of course they gave us sins and priests,
To wake us up from stupor;
Before, we were uncivilized beasts;
After, we became super!

Italians, their gestures grand,
Taught us cooking and wine;
The world elsewhere was raw and bland,
We knew not how to dine.
