My wife and I decided to take a sabbatical year here in #PuertoRico so I could write a book, learn Spanish and enjoy the beach. We have two boys and when we looked for schools we were absolutely shocked at how far these local schools are behind. It's nearly a time capsule here.
Because of this, it was an immediate call to action and service to the children of this island for us. Everyone here is an American, and many things in #PuertoRico are at an American standard (USPS, NPS, etc.) However, the schooling here is definitely NOT! It's nearly 3rd world.
What I thought was going to be a relaxing year off has become an adventure. I created a non profit called Tech My School techmyschool.org Our mission is to improve the education on the island through improved systems, capacity building, and student empowerment.
TMS donates devices, gives continual training, and co-teaches tech skills in classrooms to underprivileged schools at no cost to them. If your school has old tech, can partner as a sister school, are interested in Week Without Walls, or can simply donate, please reach out.
Though it is a new venture, we have already made an impact! However, we need to do much more! I need your help! This is an issue that I cannot take on alone. If you know anyone who cares for, or is from #PuertoRico, please spread the word of TMS or reach out to us. Thank you! 🙏
