Okay so, I think this new album may be the third (and last) part of the MOTS series, especially because our journey was cut off unceremoniously by the pandemic.

The English title of the album is “We are Bulletproof” but the Korean title is “We are Bangtan”, a statement.

If you guys remember, the boys have hinted at the beginning of “City Dionysia” for MOTS tour, but this didn’t happen due to the pandemic.

City Dionysia ties in with the last song in MOTS Persona, “Dionysus”, which is also the perfect song to connect MOTS Persona and MOTS 7.

Off topic: I wrote a Dionysus thread because I grew up with a great love for mythology and there are so many similarities between him and BTS!

Other gods perceived him as a “foreigner”, and his followers, mostly women, were viewed “crazy” when they danced during his festivals.

MOTS is about the search for the map of the soul, aka individuation. 💜

We encounter Jungian terms such as Persona, Shadow, and Ego, and the albums have six songs for these.

Persona - Intro: Persona, Boy with Luv
Shadow - Interlude: Shadow, Black Swan
Ego - Outro: Ego, ON

Our journey unfolds through the songs in the album.

We go from asking the question “Who am I?” (Persona), to acknowledging our fears “Please don’t let me shine, don’t let me down, don’t let me fly” (Shadow), and to finally deciding to follow our own path “Wherever my way” (Ego).

MOTS Persona
- Question: Who am I?
- Persona, a mask to conform to societal norms

MOTS 7
- Decision: Wherever my way
- Shadow, repressed thoughts and fears
- Ego, center of consciousness

We are Bulletproof
- Declaration: We are Bangtan
- Wholeness, discovery of the true Self

Since 2020, their performances have also highlighted a common theme of going through the painful process of first being engulfed by their fear, before finally overcoming it.

This is also the theme of the songs Outro: Ego and most especially ON.

We also usually get a “trilogy” before we wrap up a chapter (Korean albums).

In the MOTS albums, the songs for Intro: Persona, Interlude: Shadow, and Outro: Ego all sample songs from the School trilogy.

Intro: Persona samples the most recent of the three, while Outro: Ego samples the oldest.

They kept going back until we reached the beginning.

I also wanted to point out how the teaser for We Are Bulletproof was quite similar to Outro: Ego!

Outro: Ego features a montage that shows from the most recent MV to the very first, while the We Are Bulletproof montage shows the very first up to the most recent.

Individuation aims to achieve wholeness. You cannot know your true “Self” unless you know ALL of yourself.

That includes looking back at all the versions of who you were (like in Outro: Ego) so that you can move forward and become who you are (like in We Are Bulletproof). 💜

So while the album isn’t named “MOTS” like MOTS Persona and MOTS 7, I feel like it would still be part of the trilogy because to give some closure to the series.

It will be very interesting. After all, there is no “end” to individuation. It is a cycle, like death and rebirth! ☺️
