The first meal I've cooked on my own land, on my own firewood. Local cod just cut up, put on the fire for 4 minutes. Salt & paprika. Divine! 😋
Dad is like "what is trout called in Marathi or Hindi?"
🤔🤔🤔
I don't think there is an Indian name for trout, is there?
Lot of wild onion grass sprouting. Also several berries. And in a couple of months, trout will start swimming closer to the surface.
Soon we can have trout caught from our creek, cooked on our wood, seasoned with wild onions, and berry compote on the side! Forest to table!
Oh there are a lot of mushrooms, and a mushroom expert neighbor says lots of them edible. So that could be on the menu too. And in fall, black walnut crusted fish! 😋
This land is ridiculously bounteous!

If reading that doesn't send a chill up your spine, nothing will. It is EXACTLY describing India. But it's a 2018 article about the Holocaust
Feeling this very despondent clarity that comes with reading too much history. As that line in BSG said, all of this has happened before, all of this will happen again.
But PhD's need dissertations defended and papers need to be peer reviewed. Usually I don't have to force work.
I hope someone on the staff is documenting what is happening in India these days. It is literally the same playbook detailed in your museum, almost step by step. They are currently at the step where they demolish Muslim houses with official decree.
Lterally on this day, that's how closely they are following the Nazi road of a multi pronged attack of demonizing in media, sending "vigilante" mobs to attack, glibly justify mobs, police & courts stand by or join in, deportations, you know what's next.
In 2005, I had a blog with just 100 regular readers.
I made a post linking to a magazine investigation into the truth/lies in IIPM, added details on why it's an expensive diploma mill, moved on with life.
Months later they emailed a legal threat
Demanding I delete my blog & apologize or they would sue me, a random junior manager in Bombay, for ₹125 crore, over a factually accurate blog post not read by more than a 100 people.
I was like nope & ridiculed the badly written faux legalese. And moved on with life.
Arindam Chadhari, instead of letting it go, decided to call up IBM, my employer then who also sold a lot of laptops to IIPM, to get them to lean on me to delete my factually accurate post.
Thankfully, IBM is an American company with policies & processes.
Bro Nestle itself was selling Maggi bonda in its campus shacks when I was in college in the late 90s. Please don't add Maggi gatekeeping to the random Indian food gatekeeping. I would love to try this!
Now feeling nostalgic about a Mood Indigo in 1998 when I first had said Maggi bonda. 😭
Also Maggi was LITERALLY created in India in 1980s as a snack by Nestle to offer a substitute for the like samosa and bhajiya for the evening chai snack. As a way for housewives to make the afternoon snack in "just two minutes".
Why the Catskills are one of the few rural areas in America I feel so very much at home in. Sunday @k_rupal & I got drawn into and engaged in a Republican bashing Trump bashing loud conversation at a restaurant by a charming charismatic lady very reminiscent of a Sopranos mom 😂
She walked in loudly saying to everyone "Jesus this cold weather on Easter! And it was warm in December. But no no no no, global warming isn't real. It's all a Chinese hoax! Blame the Republicans for this weather, folks."
Wife & I look at each other thinking
And she sat at the next table. And was very chatty. Very friendly. Very liberal. Talked about her liberal son a lot, saying how he taught her all the right loving things. "He was never into PlayStations or even phones. He just wants to read books. And he sends me things to read."
Ugh, this! I first ran into Brandon Stanton 10 years ago or so in Washington Square Park when Humans of NY was just getting social media traction and he would set up a board sharing stories in the park and help people in need.
He's never turned it into a "business". To this day.
Stanton has always used his public platform for philanthropy, giving voice to the ignored, talking empathy and humanism. To not only plagiarize the idea & claim it as innovation AND turn it into a for profit influencer marketing type business is just unconscionable!
