that Japanese Americans were unpatriotic or collaborating with forces belligerent to the United States. Their incarceration continued until December of 1944, when they were each given $25 and a bus or train ticket back to the city where they were arrested.

They lost everything; homes, businesses, and academic progress. They also returned to racism, bigotry, and in many cases, physical assault. They found it difficult to find employment and suffered great financial hardship.

In 1992, the US government made direct reparations of $20,000 to survivors of the unconstitutional arrest and incarceration during World War II. #ncpol

Between 1932 and 1972, The United States Public Health Service conducted an experiment on untreated syphilis on more than 600 Black Alabama sharecroppers. #ncpol

PHS told them they would receive healthcare, but none was actually provided. There are no reports any racial group other than Black men were selected.
At least 120 of the subjects died. At least 40 wives were infected, and ... #ncpol

9 children were in born infected with congenital syphilis. In 1997, President Bill Clinton apologized, but no damages or reparations have ever been paid. Dr. Raymond A. Vonderlehr lead the experiment with Dr. Robert John Heller Jr. Neither was ever held accountable. #ncpol

The legacy today is a deep seated mistrust by Blacks in mainstream medicine. COVID-19 vaccination rates in the Black community lag behind all other groups as a result.
