Two years ago today, a quorum of community members stood up the Celo network. Happy celo-versary everyone! What an incredible milestone! ππ₯³πΎ
When the network first launched, I would compulsively check its health to make sure that blocks were still being produced. Two years later with no downtime, that compulsion has faded thanks to the incredible work of the validator and core dev community. Here's to all of you!
Since then, the network has produced 12.6M blocks, processed 114M transactions, serviced 4M wallet addresses, self-governed with 52 on-chain governance proposals and two hardforks, helped offset 85M tons of CO2, and we're just getting started!
Celo has some of the best features of any decentralized platform today:
But perhaps even more impressive than any of this, is the community that is making it all happen. I got to meet, hug, and even sing karaoke with some of the thousand of you that came to Celo Connect. I'm so proud to be part of this incredible ride with all of you!
It's been a wild journey. From the incredible work supporting 43K+ people around the world with millions of dollars of UBI, to helping fight climate change with an ecosystem of regenerative finance protocols, I can't wait to see what we pull off next!
Over the weekend, a few people reached out to us to get @CeloOrgβs take on @MakerDAOβs #BlackThursday event last week, and to ask what it means for the algorithmic stablecoin space in general.
Weβve been following the event closely and wanted to start by sharing our support to the entire @MakerDAO community. Building complex decentralized systems is challenging and while the system didnβt run 100% as expected, it ultimately held up π
