At the @wsbtv gubernatorial debate, @DavidPerdueGA comes out the gate with the Big Lie: "The 2020 election was rigged and stolen," he says. Blames Kemp for Trump's (and his) election loss.
"I'm not dividing the party, the party was already divided," @DavidPerdueGA says when asked if his campaign is dividing the GOP. Claims Kemp "would not investigate anything" about the 2020 election. Some facts: usatoday.com/story/news/fac…
.@BrianKempGA pushes back on claims he didn't do enough to stop the "rigged" 2020 election. Says he "the @GBI_GA has looked at this, but you know what, so has the @FBI and they haven't moved further" because of a lack of evidence.
"First of all, the only one lying here is you. And that is a fact," @DavidPerdueGA says to Perdue after he's accused of declining to call a special session of the legislature to investigate alleged voter fraud.
"What I'm running to do right now is expose (Kemp) as a weak leader, somebody that did not fight for us and he's misleading the people of Georgia about what he did do and what he didn't do and what he couldn't do and what the Constitution said and all this," @DavidPerdueGA says."
"I never said it was a clean election," Brian Kemp says when Perdue challenges him about accepting the results of the 2020 election. "I've always said there's fraud in every election."
Perdue claims Kemp is "taking hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars in Georgia and giving them to a company primarily owned by George Soros, a woke company who's gonna bring their jobs to Georgia." @Rivian is an electric car company investing in GA: bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
Perdue hits Kemp over a civic education class @NewGAProject gave to Atlanta high schools about voting: "Right now, on your watch in Fulton County, in @apsupdate, George Soros is funding a program where with Stacy Abrams they're teaching kids that voter ID is racist," he claims.
Asked how the GOP can court Latinos, Kemp cites small businesses: "They were thankful when I reopened our economy...I've had Latino restaurant owners tell me, you know, you saved our business." Adds "I think they have great appreciation for the conservative leadership we've had."
Perdue and Kemp sparring over crime and Buckhead's secession vote.
Perdue: "Why would he not let the people of Buckhead determine their own future? Crime is a big reason they wanted to have that vote."
Kemp: "I'm actually doing something about crime in Atlanta." #gapol
Perdue says he supports Buckhead seceding from Atlanta: "As long as you enable bad behavior, you're going to get bad behavior," he says.
Kemp: "I'm going to continue to keep my powder dry, let this movement come forward or not." #gapol#gagov
Perdue: "What you heard tonight was a week governor trying to cover up a bad record...He has divided us, he will not be able to beat @staceyabrams. And if we want to protect our freedom and our values we have to vote and we have to make sure that Stacy is never our governor."
Kemp: "Make no mistake, my opponent's attack in my record, because he has none of his own ... Join us in this fight. There's only one person that's beaten Stacey Abrams, and that's me. And I plan on doing it again and I have the record to do that."

New: GA Republicans largely support Trump’s conspiracy theories about 2020. That doesn’t mean they’ll back his candidates, especially as incumbents tout their own voting measures.
Trump-backed candidates who support the “Big Lie” are running and winning primaries in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. But in Georgia, with its long history of fights over the right to vote, Trump’s imported grievances fall flat: washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/…
The race between @BrianKempGA and @DavidPerdueGA has been defined by election grievances. While Perdue hits Kemp for “dividing” the party, many of his former staff have closed ranks around Kemp, blaming the false voter fraud claims for his 2021 loss. washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/…
Some news! I’m starting a new beat covering voting rights, election security, misinformation, public trust and all things Georgia as part of the @washingtonpost’s new democracy team.
I couldn't be more excited to tell the story of the state that raised me. Coming home, ATL!
So much thanks and appreciation to my incredible colleagues at @USATODAY and the unprecedented two years we had together. I’ll miss many of y’all and will continue to admire your work. 💙
It’s a critical moment for our democracy. I’m looking forward to reporting on the challenges facing our institutions and hopefully — in some way — help rebuild effectiveness and trust in our system of government.
A full-scale Russian invasion would be the final step Putin’s years long effort to destabilize Ukraine with disinformation, cyberattacks and covert operations. An A1 on how these key strategies are the new normal for war in the 21st century w/ @RickRouan@JoshMeyerDC
“While some of us have been familiar with Putin’s playbook for some time, the whole world is now getting introduced to the idea of hybrid war. And we're actually seeing it play out in real time,” said one former CIA analyst. usatoday.com/story/news/pol…
Most Russian disinformation is meant as propaganda for the Russian public. It helps build a “narrative to sell to the Russian public and the world about why whatever action Russia takes is ultimately justified," @scharap told me. usatoday.com/story/news/pol…
In the briefing room today with COVID, Ukraine, job growth and inflation in the news. What’s a good question to ask?
"There could be a range of false flags and pretext that we would expect would proceed an invasion, and again we remain in that window," @PressSec warns, saying Russia will set a "fabricated pretext" for invasion in Ukraine, which the White House has warned about before.
.@PressSec says "no decisions have been made" about whether Democrats would move forward with a gas tax holiday but reiterates "all options are on the table."
Psaki declines to say whether the White House has engaged Congress in conversations on the idea.
