Breaking news:

In a stunning deposition, ex-President Trump repeatedly admitted that he—and only he—oversaw compensation for his COO, Matt Calamari.

Problem is, those untaxed corporate perks are under investigation by the Manhattan DA.

This could be a serious problem for Trump. No kidding. In many states, "hearsay" is inadmissible.

But in New York, prosecutors can show a grand jury a deposition in another case. So that long-awaited criminal indictment could still be in the works.
A very experienced former prosecutor (one of the best in New York) told us this:

“That statement sounds as though it is adverse to Trump’s pecuniary interests, and therefore is admissible against him."
Another former prosecutor (who used to run the investigative division over at the Manhattan DA) made this point:

"That’s why people can invoke their Fifth Amendment protections against self-incrimination."

It's honestly bewildering that Trump would repeatedly admit this.

I'm sitting in New York state court this morning, where a judge is expected to make some key decisions on ex-President Trump & the Trump Organization.

First question of the day: Should he be ordered to pay $10k/day for refusing to turn over evidence?
The New York AG is investigating potential bank & insurance fraud over the way the Trump Org routinely inflates property values.

Another question today: Is the company turning over evidence on time?
This investigation is heating up in what could be its final stages.

Yet another question today in court: Will the judge force real estate advisers Cushman & Wakefield to turn over docs showing how they helped the Trump Org value their properties?

Of the US, UK & EU, only the Americans have sanctioned the Russian energy giant Gazprom, which continues to supply fuel to Europe.

And yet only the UK has sanctioned Gazprom’s chairman, Alexey Miller.

I'm back covering this two-day court hearing in Scotland, which could lead to Donald Trump being subjected to an anti-money laundering "unexplained wealth order."

Today, we heard from the Scottish govt.

The nonprofit @avaaz wants the Scottish govt to use a new anti-money laundering tool to look into the Trump Turnberry golf course.

Scotland's leader, @NicolaSturgeon, has resisted that.

At the hearing this morning so far, both sides have just begun to lay out their positions.
It's a new investigative tool for the UK, so this case asks fundamental questions:

Whose responsibility is it to deploy an "unexplained wealth order?"

And is the Scottish govt under an obligation to use one? Against Trump?

Lord Sandison, the judge, is going to figure that out
