I'm sitting in New York state court this morning, where a judge is expected to make some key decisions on ex-President Trump & the Trump Organization.
First question of the day: Should he be ordered to pay $10k/day for refusing to turn over evidence?
The New York AG is investigating potential bank & insurance fraud over the way the Trump Org routinely inflates property values.
Another question today: Is the company turning over evidence on time?
This investigation is heating up in what could be its final stages.
Yet another question today in court: Will the judge force real estate advisers Cushman & Wakefield to turn over docs showing how they helped the Trump Org value their properties?
@scottbix@arawnsley Here's a perfect example of the problem with a patchwork approach:
Of the US, UK & EU, only the Americans have sanctioned the Russian energy giant Gazprom, which continues to supply fuel to Europe.
And yet only the UK has sanctioned Gazprom’s chairman, Alexey Miller.
@scottbix@arawnsley Russia has been an authoritarian hell for years, killing journalists & torturing pro-democracy activists. And it stole Ukrainian land in 2014.
Wondered what took so long for the world to come together?
I'm back covering this two-day court hearing in Scotland, which could lead to Donald Trump being subjected to an anti-money laundering "unexplained wealth order."
2014: Trump bought Trump Turnberry *in cash*
2017: UK got a new investigative tool forcing rich, politically connected people to explain suspicious purchases
2019: @Avaaz demands Scotland uses one on Trump, govt resists
2021: It sues to force govt to use this tool
