How I got scammed 😭 #nftinvest I wasn’t sure if I should post this, because I was so stupid and I am so angry with myself rn. But again, I want to let more people know what happened so you won’t make the same mistake. Let’s begin…

Smart Wallet Alert. I believe action speaks louder than words so instead of reading what influencers say, I like to monitor their wallet address and follow their actions. So I set up wallet alerts on icy.tool, pretty smart right?

This morning, one of the influencers I deeply respect minted a Louis Vuitton NFT and icy.tool promptly sent me an alert. I was intrigued…because, I never heard any news, any chatters. So I thought maybe the influencer was given earlier spots due to his status.

Follow the OpenSea link I quickly tracked down the NFT page, and it has a blue tick!!! Check! The floor is very high at 26.7ETH and there is even a “Mint on the website” link!!! I can’t believe my luck!

I clicked on the link and the stealth launch is now live! I just found it very weird that I heard nothing about LV launching an NFT recently, surely that would get some hype? But again, I am busy and I am not always on top of all the NFT news....

...The mint remaining number keeps going down and I need to act fast! My emotion was running high, I thought the influencer has minted it, I checked ether scan, it IS in his wallet. The mint price was such a steal, at 0.12 ETH each and the current floor on OpenSea is 26.7ETH!...

..I decided to mint five. Because it says Mint 5, get 1 airdropped as a bonus!

Once I managed to pay and grabbed the NFTs and sit down to reflect, something didn’t sit right. I checked on OpenSea, albeit the high floor price, there is no transaction on the page.

I went to check the Etherscan, there is hardly any real ether transfer into the project…this doesn’t explain the high floor price on Opensea.

Then it dawned on me that many influencers are airdropped with scam NFTs, and these airdrops show up as a mint on my alert. So people like me, who thinks they are super smart fell for it. In fact, there are other red flags along the way, for example, I have never heard about it..

...on twitter, it says it’s a stealth launch on the page, and the mint 5 get 1 for free?!

Takeaway: when something is too good to be true, please stop and think. I thought maybe I was early and no one knows about the mint so I need to act fast… what an idiot in hindsight!

But at least, I did mint from a hot wallet and there is no other important assets stolen. Degen is not for me. I am the slow type. I need to do my research, know the team/the founder/the project. I may not get in at the best price, but at least, I will know what I am getting

myself into and thus, I can trade with confidence and peace.
