1/🧵 Attention #Chandler. If you’re wondering what type of people are running our schools, please watch how Board President Barb Mozdzen and Superintendent @FrankNarducci responded to the following heart-wrenching address from a CUSD student at tonight’s meeting…
2/ 🧵 I’ve cut the clip to remove her name and school. People have been unbelievably shitty towards children who have spoken at these meetings. (Yes, I’m well aware that it’s still [all those things]. If you’re here to critique that keep moving.)
3/ 🧵 She begins by thanking the board and saying “Good evening. My name is ______ and I’m a sophomore at ______.” She then goes into an address that is beyond heart-breaking. I’m not sure what else to even say other than TW: bullying/harassment/violence/bigotry/everything ugly.
4/ 🧵 This left me in tears wanting to scream and hug this child and all the children she spoke about and all the other children that no one is speaking about. Everything about this was painful to watch…
5/ 🧵 No child should have to have this kind of strength and courage, to stand up and to do and say such hard things all because the adults around them have lacked the strength and the courage to do their jobs. This is happening in our town. OUR TOWN. This is us, Chandler.
6/ 🧵 So how did district leadership respond? Board President Mozdzen thanked both her and the hateful bigot who spoke before her, smiled, and turned it over to Superintendent Narducci who began rambling on about the consent agenda.
No. Really.
7/ 🧵 I am disgusted. Shame on them. And shame on us if we continue to allow the people in charge of that room and of our schools to continue to not give a goddamn shit about who is getting hurt in these meetings and those schools.
8/ 🧵 Board Member Love trying her best to have that child acknowledged…
9/ … while Barb Mozdzen, Jason Olive, Lara Bruner, @JoelWirth4CUSD and every other adult in that room just couldn’t muster a shit to give. And a very special thanks to @FrankNarducci for addressing this student with the care and compassion owed to a DMV form.

1/ Hey #Chandler let’s not let this slide, huh? And let’s also refuse to accept there was nothing they could do.
If they can’t figure out how to run a school district AND show compassion/empathy for children at the same time, they have no business occupying those chairs.
2/ Pls go watch this child’s entire address in the thread above, & see how terribly she was treated. Here, we’ll revisit a key line:
“I’m here today to urge you to specifically redefine goals for equity and non discrimination in the 2023 political agenda.”
This. Really. Matters.
3/ And in case you think Board Pres Mozdzen was having a quiet night, just a few racist minutes before that student spoke she was all smiles & giggles basking in the glory of all the CUSD awards/scholarships/sunshine/rainbows they were all-too-happy to display earlier that mtg.
I highly recommend watching the CUSD candidate forum from last night, graciously hosted by @SecularAZ and facilitated by the always fabulous @JeanneCasteen.
The forum link would help there, huh? (Sorry I don’t do the book, Face anymore!)
1/🧵(Full-disclosure: I have a LOT of HW to do here as I just became aware of this situation today. For ex: Why did I just become aware of this situation today????)
Earlier, I came across this thread from Pima County Recorder Cázares-Kelly:
2/🧵 I decided to look into what she was describing. Not because I didn’t believe her - I do, and you should too - but because THIS is the sort of white supremacist bullshit that she is up against.
Sorry- what was that?
The additional work her office has to do is important???
3/🧵 Psst!!! THE FUCKING WHITE SUPREMACY IS IMPORTANT, @PimaDems.
This should go without saying except before you were worried about the extra work this was making for her office, your knee-jerk reaction was to kool-aid man yourselves in, concerned w/ defending… you. So… 🤷🏻♀️
I am a white woman who has personally witnessed racism/white supremacy in action w/in the Dem party. I’ve also witnessed elected party officials ignore, gaslight, & even attack those who speak out against racism/white supremacy.
I’m also zero interested in entertaining or keeping space for comments concerned about “in-fighting” “circular firing squads” “blue no matter who” etc.
Concern yourselves with this white supremacy or keep moving.
I have also personally witnessed the Dem party respond w/ “what omg that’s terrible!” followed by pretending to care followed by doing absolutely nothing about inexcusable behaviors. The response detailed in this thread is disappointing but not at all surprising.
1/🧵Ok everybody there were only 3 speakers at tonight’s @ChandlerUnified mtg but they were… something else.
Seriously, have a seat. No wait - make some popcorn, pour yourself a nice beverage, and settle in for the @nbcsnl school board skit they can only wish they had written.
