And the ACLU just confirmed to the US court that Amber Heard's statement submitted for the UK trial against The Sun & Dan Wootton in 2020 - which Justice Nicol used to reach a conclusion in favour of publisher NGN - contained a lie.
To clarify, they admitted that they had not received all the £3.5 million they were expecting from Amber Heard. The actress wrote in her statement to the UK court that she had donated all her settlement ($7m) to charity.
So, what we have is Amber Heard being awarded positive PR for announcing to the media that she wanted nothing from Johnny Depp because she had donated her entire divorce settlement of $7million to charity. The reality is the ACLU received partial payment via Depp & Elon Musk.
Almost everyone who saw that clip, read related news articles or interviews (including one by Eve Barlow below), understood it to mean that Amber Heard was parting with every cent she received from Johnny Depp, because she didn't want to keep or spend his money.
Despite questions from the public and speculation in the media, @ACLU and Amber Heard had to be dragged into court by Johnny Depp to clarify that the organisation did not receive all $3.5 million. They allowed the public to think it had already been paid.
Why was there a shroud of secrecy over what should have been a simple matter of fact for clarification to the public? It runs out that Amber Heard was worried about the PR optics of revealing she had pledged instalments. Honesty was considered a bad PR move. That says it all.
The allegations against Johnny Depp & the donations announcement brought high profile PR coverage & ambassador roles with the ACLU & United Nations for Amber Heard. Two years later, that mileage was to expected to go further:

The PR machine for Amber Heard was fuelled by her DV allegations against Johnny Depp and it took her a long way... to the ACLU:

Now, #AmberHeard & her lawyers hope to spin how she didn't make good on her donations as the fault of...#JohnnyDepp! Why? He filed his lawsuit against her in 2019, for her defamatory op-ed. That doesn't jive with the facts, though:
She received her final divorce payment from Depp around 10 months before the op-ed was published. Depp sued a couple of months later, in 2019. She had ample opportunity to give the funds to the ACLU & the CHLA. Unless she had a crystal ball, she didn't know a lawsuit was coming.
So why did the ACLU make a false statement regarding the donations?

The General Counsel & COO for the #ACLU confirmed that a staff member provided a false statement for the UK lawsuit of Depp v. NGN (publisher of The Sun), back in 2020, to support Amber Heard's misleading donations claim:
