This #ArborDay, we take a look at a new report that shows the Earth is currently losing its forests at an alarming rate.
At a time when trees are more valuable than ever for their ability to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide contributing to a dangerously warming planet, the forests are dwindling.
The findings from the World Resources Institute show:
-The tropics lost 27.5 million acres of tree cover
-Brazil, where the Amazon rainforest is facing deforestation, led all tropical nations by a wide margin, with 3.8 million acres lost.
Dr. Anthony Fauci said the United States is "out of the pandemic phase" after more than two years of COVID-19, which has caused tens of millions of cases and hundreds of thousands of deaths. But what does that mean? bit.ly/3OH2lgH
Fauci pointed to the relatively low level of current cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. According to @CDCgov data, the 7-day average of new cases per day was more than 47,000 as of Monday, down from a peak of >800,000 in January.
Fauci expanded on his comments Wednesday, saying while winter in the U.S. was the "full-blown pandemic phase," the country is reaching a control phase. He also acknowledged that, from a global perspective, "the world is still in a pandemic. There’s no doubt about that."

The company said it had not received any payment since the beginning of the month.
European gas prices shot up on the news, which the European Union commission's president called an attempt at "blackmail."

Shanghai, the financial center of China and a city of 25 million, is now in its fifth week of lockdown due to a COVID-19 surge in China: bit.ly/3vMRA3S
Shanghai is the ninth place in China to be locked down citywide since February 2020. It’s one of a few regions that have become COVID-19 hot spots since March 2022. As of April 19, more than half the cities in China were under some sort of lockdown.
While stringent measures were lifted in the majority of other cities as cases started to decrease, Shanghai remains on strict lockdown due to deteriorating conditions.
